LAKEPORT, CA -- For the first time since 1976, promoters from both the Ukiah Speedway and the Lakeport Speedway have come together to create the “King of the Hill Challenge Series”, a series that will have one champion between the two race tracks.
The “King of the Hill Challenge Series” will include the modifieds, mini stocks, bombers, bonus bombers, and the Airport Auto Brokers late models. It will run one weekend in Lakeport and the next in Ukiah. There are no conflicting schedules as have been the past 12 years.
“The drivers will race at both race tracks like they did back in the sixties and seventies,” said Lakeport Speedway manager Nadine Strauss. “Because the tracks are so different in shape, our drivers and theirs will have to learn a brand new style of driving.”
Strauss and her husband, Bob, a modified driver as well as co-promoter at Lakeport, and Ukiah promoter Blair Aiken, have been working hard on all the details of the merger, including a common set of rules for all five divisions, common officials to work at both race tracks, a common points system, and the same purse payout.
“I will be working as director of competition at both race tracks. I’ve done it for 23 year at Lakeport and hope to make the transition at Ukiah as easy as possible for both the drivers and the officials,” Strauss said.
The series begins on April 21 at Ukiah Speedway and continues at Lakeport Speedway on April 28. Schedules for both tracks are available at the Lakeport Speedway Office in Lucerne or at www.LakeportSpeedway.com, For more information about the merger call 707-274-2844.![]()
