
IRWINDALE, Calif. -- Irwindale Speedway kicks off its 9th season of racing this Saturday (March 24th) featuring Whelen All-American NASCAR Weekly Racing Series action. As a gesture of appreciation to its loyal fans who attend the event, the Speedway will sell hot dogs and 20 oz, soft drinks at half price throughout the evening.
Speedway officials will also begin the evening with a major sponsorship announcement followed by a four-race schedule that includes the newly sponsored ACDelco Super Late Model Series, Auto Club Late Model Series, and the King Taco Super Truck Series. The evening’s finale will feature the Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8s race featuring personality Jesse James.
Van Knill will return to defend his 2006 Super Late Model championship crown but will be challenged by many others including Travis Thirkettle who makes his series debut after capturing the 2006 Late Model Championship and Rip Michels, Irwindale Speedway’s all-time race winner with 44 victories. Ron Peterson returns to defend his Super Truck division crown while Tim Huddleston, driver / owner of High Point Racing will field a four car Late Model super team that includes 18 year old Jace “the Ace’ Meier. Already a five-year racing veteran, Meier is also an honor student and president of his senior class at Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas, NV.
Tickets for all Irwindale Speedway events are available for purchase in person at the Speedway ticket office, by calling (626) 358-1100 and online at www.irwindalespeedway.com. Auto Club of Southern California members receive a 10% discount off of the purchase of up to four (4) adult general admission tickets for Saturday oval racing when they show their AAA membership card. Auto Club members can also receive discounts on special offers at the concession and souvenir stands.
