MIKE DUNCAN STARTS 2007 SEASON WITH POLE RECORD IN TEXAS AND HEADS FOR FIRST ARCA RACE

Bakersfield, CA -- Two-time NASCAR Grand National West Champion Mike Duncan doesn’t like to sit idle. As late March was approaching, the former pro baseball player, organic farmer and life-time outdoorsman was more than eager to get the 2007 racing season started. Mix in the fact that the GND West series did not start the season with their (usual) January race in Phoenix, Duncan was especially geared up for the season opener at Thunderhill Raceway, in Kyle, Texas. Making matters worse was the Texas rain that drenched Thunderhill for the beginning of the sessions there, adding to the anxiety of waiting to race.

Then race day arrived, the clouds disappeared and Duncan’s wait was over. The Lucas Oil/Greenfrogroastingco.com #9 Chevrolet qualified with a track record, and Duncan grabbed the first pole of the GND West season. At the end of the evening, Duncan raced to a top-three finish and was elated with the start of the season. “We obviously had the fastest car at the track, and we almost had the win, but I’m real happy with the work we’ve put into our program”, Duncan stated. He added, “Bill Sedgwick (Crew Chief) was simply awesome, and it showed all night long…this is a great sign of things to come for 2007.” When asked about the return of former series champ, Scott Lynch and Lynch’s win at Thunderhill, Duncan admitted, “Yeah, it felt like old times out there. Any time you have guys like Scott, Mike David…heck, all these guys are fast, and it was a great race!”

Mike Duncan now moves into a new dimension of his racing career as the MB Duncan Motor Sports team races in their first ARCA series race this weekend, in Tennessee, at the ARCA 150. When reached by phone – on a lake somewhere in Texas – Duncan replied to the obvious questions about his first ARCA race by saying, “Well, I’d like to think that we could carry over the tone of the last few days (a pole position, a top-three finish and two days of catching loads of bass ) into Tennessee, but it all comes down to the fact that we expect to gain a great deal of education there. We’re going in cautiously optimistic, and we hope to add a bunch of insight to our notebook.”

Mike Duncan was the NASCAR Grand National Division Rookie-of-the-Year in 2000. Behind the leadership of two-time Grand National Champ, Bill Sedgwick, Duncan and team won the 2004 – 2005 championships. Together, they compete full time on the Grand National West series.
