Corona, CA -- The 15 year-old Riverside, CA resident, Randel “The Rocket” King worked his way from an 8th place qualifying position to finish third in the 100-Lap feature at Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu, Arizona last weekend. This event was the third stop on the 2007 Lucas Oil ASA Speed Truck Challenge Series presented by Go Fast.
King and his extremely fast #35 Hype Manufacturing/Clay Andrews Racing/ Chevy Colorado truck were looking to pull off back-to-back wins at the newly renovated and recently re-opened ¼ Havasu track, but had to contend with traffic and several yellow flags to pull off the third place finish which moved King up to ninth form fourteenth in the season points championship.
Scott King, the Rocket’s father and team manager says “we struggled in qualifying, which meant we had to start mid pack and Randel did a fantastic job of working is way through traffic and as our truck got better he was able to pass on the high groove and the low groove.”
Led by talented crew chief Dallas Leininger, King won his first main event in the series at the Orange Show Speedway three weeks ago, in dominating fashion by leading all but the first five laps of the 100-lap feature.
King drove his #35 Hype Manufacturing/Clay Andrews Racing Dodge Dakota truck to a respectable sixth place finished in the 2006 ASA Speed Truck Challenge point standings and was the 2006 ASA Speed Truck Challenge ‘Rookie of the Year’.
What makes Randel King different from other teenagers is that he is the developmental driver for Clay Andrews Racing who also fielded the #84 Ranchwood Homes Chevrolet driven by David Gilliland in the 2006 NASCAR Busch Series. Gilliland shocked the NASCAR world when he won the Busch race at Kentucky Speedway in only his seventh series start.
The next ASA Speed Truck Challenge Series event for Randel King is on the 3/8 –mile Tucson Raceway in Tucson. AZ on April 21st. For more information check out his website at www.randelkingracing.com![]()
