LEAF KICKS OFF 2007 WITH A WIN DURING THE BLUE SKY TOWING ROCKY MOUNTAIN SPRING SIZZLER

Chris Leaf kicked off 2007 with a narrow win over Ronnie Hults during the Snap-On Pro Trucks Main Event Saturday night. The Blue Sky Towing Rocky Mountain Spring Sizzler kicked off 2007 for Colorado National Speedway as last weekend was weathered out. Ed Vecchiarelli Jr cruised to a SUNOCO Grand American Modified over Nathan Gasser. Paul Deines dominated the Motorsports News Modified Coupe action leaving Gary Land behind. Chris Eggleston ended up the winner of the RMLRA Legend Car main event after Danny Medina failed post-race inspection, Kyle Clegg was a close second. ½ Fool and Plum M.T. piloted by Kathy Caulkins and “Cousin Phil” chugged to the win over Snafu and Santa’s Express.

Danny Medina and Terry Plummer led the Legend car main to the green flag. Medina took the lead with Chris Eggleston, Plummer, Kyle Clegg and Tyler Chrisinger following. The front 5 checked out, and Clegg took third on lap 19 in traffic. As the field was coming for the white flag, Luke Sweckard stopped in turn 4, brining a caution. Medina held on for the win over Chrisinger, Clegg, Plummer and Sweckard. Medina was disqualified in post-race inspection and the official win went to Eggleston. Clegg was second over Plummer.

The Modified Coupe man event went from green-to-checkered without a caution. Paul Deines and Gary Land led the field to the green with Paul jumping into the early land. Land took second and stayed there the rest of the race. Frank Denning III finished third over Rich Bubak and Richie Sherrill.

The Grand American Modified main event saw Marc Ferguson on the pole with Tom Evans to the outside. Evans jumped to the early lead over Mike Castagno and Ed Vecchiarelli Jr. On lap 6 Vecchiarelli Jr was second and took the lead on lap 7. A pile-up in turn 3 on lap 12 left most of the modifieds involved. On the restart Vecchiarelli led Nathan Gasser, Greg Nelson, Castagno and Evans. Vecchiarelli was black-flagged for smoking on lap 20 and Vecchiarelli Jr won over Gasser, Nelson, Jon Lincicome and Marc Ferguson.

Ronnie Hults and Chris Leaf led the Pro Truck main event to the green flag. Leaf too the early over Ronnie Hults and Beau Kellogg. Brandon Dreiling was sent off the track on lap 13 and Danny Concelman spef at 8. Leaf took the close win over Hults, Kellogg, Richard Burton and Adam Deines.

Santa’s Express led early in the Train Race, before Steel Dragon took over on lap 6. On lap Steel Dragon toom over the lead and then was hit by Snafu is in the X. ½ Fool and Plum M.T.

The afternoon qualifying sessions started off with the Legend cars and setting quick time was Danny Medina with a 18.849 lap. Chris Eggleston was second quick over Kyle Clegg. Paul Deines was quickest in the Modified Coupe qualifying with a 16.261 lap. Gary Land was second over Frank Denning III. Ed Vecchiarelli Jr was quickest in the Grand American Modified qualifying session with a lap of 16.766. Second was Ed Vecchiarelli and third was Justin Case. In the Pro Truck qualifying Ronnie Hults with a 16.596 lap. Darren Crocker was second over Beau Kellogg.

The first Legend B-Main started with Rick Rusk and Scott Miller on the front row. Miller shot to the lead over Rusk an Darrell Stewart. Danny Medina moved into second on lap 2 taking Kyle Clegg with him. Medina and Clegg moved into the first two positions on lap 3. The rest of the race saw Clegg and Medina side by side with Medina taking the close win over Clegg, Stewart, Miller and John Baker.

Scott Bremkamp and Carl Vair were on the front row for the first Modified Coupe B-Main. Vair led the first lap over Paul Deines and Carl Clarino. Deines took over on lap 2 and caution flew on lap 3 when the Bobby Zike owned car driven by Jim Weese crashed into the turn 1 wall. When racing resumed Deines took off again, and Frank Denning III spun on lap 6. Deines took the win over Clarino, Vair, Bob Land and Denning.

After two false starts in the Pro Truck trophy dash, the front row became the back row. Chris Leaf and Beau Kellogg were the new front row and Leaf jumped into the early lead. Ronnie Hults sped through the field and took the win with a last lap pass. Leaf took second over Kellogg, Darren Crocker and Dustin Courter.

Bill Yeros led the second Legend B-Main, until Tyler Chrisinger went by on lap four. On lap five, Terry Plummer took the lead and Chris Eggleston moved into second. Plummer took the win over Eggleston, Chrisinger, Jace Hansen and Yeros.

Joe Sullivan and Paul Bredenberg brought the second Modified Coupe B-Main to the green flag. Richie Sherrill jumped into the early lead, but not for long as here game Gary Land. Land took over on lap 2 and David Johnson Jr was sent off for smoking. Land cruised to the win over Rich Bubak, Sherrill, Drew Utecht and Sullivan.

Rudy Vanderwal and Chris Cox led the Pro Truck B-Main to the flag stand and then action occurred in turn 1. Jack Nugent, Adam Hilton and Billy Harking got together leaving Billy with a broken truck and Adam with a missing fender. On the restart, Cox led over Vanderwal. Hilton took over the lead and led until Richard Burton passed him late for the win. Burton won over Hilton, Cox, Adam Deines and Nugent.
