Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! We got it in! The Madera Speedway Management would like to say thank you to the 681 fans, the 400 plus crew members working in the pits and the 45 staff members that braved the weather and helped us get the event in.
More than 400 phone calls came into the speedway office looking for information about the weather and chance of getting the event in. Though we are disappointed with the fact that the bad weather kept a sure sell out crowd from seeing the Gerhardt Classic, we are very proud of doing the right thing and making sure that the fans that drove up from Los Angles, or down from Redding, or over from San Francisco got to see the racing they deserved. Many of the fans called several times while in route to the track and the staff felt the obligation of getting the event in for each and every fan that made the drive.
Billy Wease won the 100 lap Gerhardt Classic midget event, Kody Swanson won the USAC sprint car race, Zack Kavert won the Legends car race, Shon Woods won the MST race, and Gary Koster won the NCMA event. The NCMA event was the only event that was shortened and the staff would like to thank NCMA for their assistance.
The Madera Speedway management would like to say a special thank you to each and every push truck driver, tow truck driver, USAC officials, the KISS Country Van driver, Madera Speedway officials and everyone else that assisted in drying the track during each of the waves of bad weather.
