Alger, WA -- Race fans from all over Western Washington are preparing for the Skagit Speedway season opener slated for Saturday, April 21st. All four defending track champions have announced that they are defending their championships this year during the Haggen Food and Pharmacy Night Season Opener.
The 410 Sprint division will be lead by Lake Stevens, WA driver Travis Jacobson. Expected to chase TJ for the title are 2005 Champion Barry Martinez, veterans Roy Blumenhagen and John Tharp. The young drivers looking to capture a first title include Travis Rutz and Brock Lemley.
In the Budweiser 360 Sprint Division, Sedro Woolley, WA's Steve Kilcup looks to repeat his 2006 success and capture a second straight title in what is arguably the tracks toughest division. Youngsters like Colton Heath, Robby Vaughn and Jason Bloodgood look to trade 2006 experience for a run at the championship, along with Rutz who is doing double duty, Danny Kirkpatrick, Dan Pierson and wily veteran "Rocket" Rod Perkins.
With 35 years of Smith Family racing experience, Kevin Smith has his eyes set on a second straight Cook Road Shell Sportsman division championship. The always tough veteran will get serious charges from last years runner-up Eric Fisher, along with Todd Rork, Martin Koetje, and Kelleigh Johnson. Look for a large contingent of rookies in the class of 2007 Skagit Sportsman division.
It's the third year for the Wilson Auto Brokers Outlaw Hornet division at Skagit Speedway. Tri-Powers Racing has claimed the first two series championships with Mike Power, Sr. and Mike Powers, Jr. taking home season titles. The entire top ten returns and new numbers have been issued to over 20 new cars. Opening day in 2006 saw over 50 Outlaw Hornets in the pits. It looks like another big car count in the 3rd year division.
Ticket gates open at 6:00 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday April 21st. Ticket prices and the full schedule are available at www.SkagitSpeedway.com![]()
