ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE LOOKING FOR ITS 4TH DIFFERENT WINNER AT TUCSON RACEWAY PARKUPLAND, California -- Jay Rutherford, president of the ever-popular ASA Speed Truck Challenge (ASA STC) was all smiles this week in his Upland office talking about how the series has had three different winners in the first three races of the 2007 season. "It has certainly been awhile since it has happened and at this level with such close qualifying times separating them," said Rutherford. "It just proves that we are accomplishing what we have always set out to do, which is put great drivers in strong trucks and every race result becomes a toss-up. The first 3 races at I-10 Speedway, Orange Show Speedway and Havasu 95 Speedway, respectively, we have realized qualifying times of less than 6/10's of second from pole to last place qualifier, he continued. To have time splits this close with over 60 Speed Trucks qualifying at 3 different race tracks, says a lot about the parity of the trucks and the level playing field for the competitors. To say the least, the ASA Speed Truck Challenge is the most competitive series on the West Coast again this year. We are just a little proud of this," Rutherford concluded.

With a solid field showing for the two-groove Havasu 95 Speedway track, the racers and the crowd thought that they had a for-sure winner in #12 - Jim Putman, who led the majority of the race. But 14-year-old Rookie, Bear Rzesnowiecky, driving the #3 United Nissan Racing Speed Truck had other ideas and took his first win with ASA STC in a dramatic move on Putman who got stuck in slow traffic in the final laps, "It was a special win for this new Rookie, Rutherford exclaimed. "Bear proved that he has what it takes to race with our seasoned veterans at the mere age of 14." With the win, Rzesnowiecky holds the lead of the Rookie Points standings and is tied for 3rd place in the Championship points with his team mate, #18 Darren Young, a two time series Champion. Victor Pfluger in the #80 Speed Truck remains infallible in qualifying with 3 fast time qualifier awards at each of the 3 tracks raced so far in the 2007 season.

This week's race will be no different with twenty-two trucks slated to run at Tucson Raceway Park. This 3/8 of a mile track has just gone through some major repairs for the 2007 season thanks to Dan & Joyce Ruth and competitors will notice the revised pits and the track surface repairs. Fans will also see a new landscaped entry and concessions. The raceway hopes the new coat of paint and the excitement of the various series such as the NASACAR Super Late Models, Late Models, Grand American Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Mighty Compacts and the ASA Speed Trucks will bring out the fans to this great racing facility.
