WEBB WINS THE PEPSI REV-IT-UP RUMBLE AT COLORADO NATIONAL SPEEDWAY

Only about 5 weeks ago, John Webb was having open-heart surgery back in Oklahoma, but in his first race back he pushed his Trucks Unlimited Chevy to the win in Saturdays USLMA Late Model main event during the Pepsi Rev-It-Up Rumble at Colorado National Speedway. Webb took the lead after leaders Scott Blevins and Jim Sikes Jr both crashed after Blevins lost a motor on lap 54. In other action, Jim Bob Rogers took home the Suss.net Sportsman feature, Sandy Thompson claimed the Loveland Goodyear Super Stocks main and Al Duran took home the Aamco Transmission Figure 8 feature.

The first feature was for the Figure 8 Cars and 23 cars rolled out with Mike Steward and Tammy Totos leaving the track before the green flag. Al Duran and Joe Matlock were on the front row, and Duran led the first lap. Stephen Webb was stuck in first gear and pulled off as soon as he took the green flag. Duran led over Matlock, John Johnson, Dennis Stepanich and Joe Martinez. On lap 14, Stepanich broke and pulled into the infield as the leaders were lapping cars fast. Royal Scott spun for a lap 18 caution as Duran still led over Matlock, Johnson, Martinez and Harry Bragg. Dennis Stepanich Jr spun on the last lap and Martinez sneaked by Johnson at the end. Duran won his second race of the season over Matlock, Martinez, Johnson and Bragg.

The 32 Super Stocks were next to do battle and Darrell Smith was on the pole with Ric Lothert to the outside. James Minor broke on the first lap and Smith led the first lap over Lothert, and Dennis Edwards. On lap 5, Smith continued to lead and Lothert was second over Edwards, Sandy Thompson and Mike Cox. On lap 10, Dave Miles had his hood fly up down the back-stretch and he pulled into the infield. On lap 12, caution flew for Zach Liss and Mike Cox tangling with Cox blowing a tire. Lothert got around Smith on the restart, and Smith fell back a few spots as Edwards was now second over Sandy Thompson. By lap 20, Thompson was now in second and Mario Garramone was now fifth. On the last lap, traffic forced Lothert way up high and Thompson didn’t quite have enough to beat Lothert back to the line for the win. Lothert took the win over Thompson, Edwards, Smith and Garramone. In post race inspection, Lothert was disqualified moving Thompson to the win ahead of Edwards, Smith, Garramone and rookie John Brusto.

Jim Bob Rogers and Davin Fisbeck led the 25 Sportsmans onto the track for their main event. The first 5 laps, the front 2 rows were side by side with John Baker in fifth. The rows got split up when the leaders came up to lap Nick Brinlee on lap 6. Fisbeck led over Rogers, Rick Hunt, Stan Griffin and Baker. Griffin and Baker had an awesome race for fourth as they kept swapping for position. On lap 20, Rogers and Hunt got by Fisbeck for move them into the first two positions over Fisbeck and the on-going battle for fourth. Rogers took the caution-free race over Smith, Fisbeck, Baker and Griffin. The Sportsman feature went caution free.

Scott Blevins and Jenny White led the 23 USLMA Late Models to the green flag. Blevins led White, John Webb and Cris Muhler on the first lap. White bobbled on lap 3 falling her back as Webb was now second over Muhler, Jim Sikes Jr and Jay Fields. Sikes Jr took third on lap 4, then got around Webb for second and started reeling in Blevins on lap 7. On lap 20, Jay Fields spun after a battle with Muhler and almost saved the car. Ronnie Hults was now fifth, and the race went red for the first time on lap 23, when Dusty Tutten went up in flames in turn 1. The lap 30 restart had Blevins leading Sikes, Webb, Muhler and Hults. On lap 54, Blevins blew a motor and collected Sikes with both cars into the turn 3 wall resulting in a red flag. On the lap 59 restart, Webb led Muhler, Hults, Dusty Fielden and White. On lap 67, White and Darren Robertson tangled in turn 3 with White rolling to a stop. The lap 71 restart had Steve Yackey now in fifth. Webb led the rest of the way for the win over Muhler, Hults, Fielden and Yackey.

In early afternoon time trials, AJ Grasso set a track record in the Super Stocks with a 20.208 lap. Sandy Thompson was second over Mike Cox. Jim Bob Rogers was quickest in the Sportsmans with a 17.649 lap. Davin Fisbeck was second over Rick Hunt. Jim Sikes Jr lowered the USLMA track record with a 16.072 lap. Darren Robertson was second quick and Ken Walter was third fastest. In the Figure 8 division, Joe Martinez set quick time with a 27.736 lap. Dennis Stepanich was second quick over Al Duran.

In the first Super Stock B-Main, Shane Riddell led early until Mario Garramone took over on lap 4. Garramone led until Darrell Smith sneaked by on lap 7 to take over. Smith won over Garramone and AJ Grasso.

The first Sportsman B-Main had Wade Grove lead the first 8 laps before JimBob Rogers took over. Rogers went on to take the win over Rick Hunt and Grove.

Trent Phillips led every lap, but the one that counts in the USLMA trophy dash. On the last lap, Ronnie Hults got under Phillips and took the win with Phillips a close second over Darren Robertson.

Corey Greer led the first lap of the second Super Stock B-Main with Chris Vieth taking over on lap 2. Vieth led until Ric Lothert went by on lap 8, and Lothert cruised to the win over Dennis Edwards and Sandy Thompson.

Lee Kemmit jumped out to the lead in the second Sportsman B-Main. Kemmit led until lap 9 when Fisbeck charged by to take over. Fisbeck won over Kemmit and Stan Griffin.

Cris Muhler led the first USLMA B-Main flag-to-flag as he never lost control of the lead. Scott Blevins finished second over Steve Yackey.

John Webb took the second USLMA B-Main in another flag-to-flag win. Jenny White was second over Dusty Fielden.

Vic Johnsen led the first Figure 8 B-Main for a lap before John Johnson came and took over on lap 2. Johnson, Al Duran and Joe Martinez were racing hard on the last lap when a lapped car forced some aggressive maneuvers and Duran slid across the finish line first over Johnson and Martinez in a great finish.

Jared Wall had control of the second Super Stock B-Main until lap 5 as he was lapping John Martello. Martello and Wall collided with Martello’s bumper stuck in Wall’s car. Wall left the track and Joe Matlock picked up the lead and the win. Dennis Stepanich was second over Harry Livermore Jr in his 2006 ride missing a front bumper.

Next Saturday night at Colorado National Speedway is the Allstate Mothers Day Classic. All mothers and grand mothers get in for a special price. The Wright Group Event Services Late Models are back along with the Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks, SUNOCO Race Fuels Grand American Modifieds, AAMCO Transmission Figure 8’s, and the ERA Super Modifieds. The monster truck, Xtreme Whiplash will be out to crunch some metal as well.
