KALSCH RETURNS TO CHAMPIONSHIP FORM

Christopher Kalsch, Hillsboro, Oregon returned to defend his 2006 champioship at Yakima speedway with a narrow win Saturday evening. After setting fast time at 19.01 sec. On the historic ½ mile oval. the likable racer charged from the number three starting position to a win.

Rookie rich Peters, making his first start in a late model, led the first 10 laps of the 50 lap event. On lap eleven , veteran Dan Obrist from Portland, Oregon took over the top spot. Obrist was still leading on lap 20 when rookie Zach Moran encountered problems and spun hard into the outside wall. Moran was uninjured, but his car suffered major damage. Hard luck racer of 2007, Ron Bemis, had another difficult evening. After pitting on lap 30 for a flat tire, Bemis had something break in the suspension of his car, causing a spin in the middle of turn three. As the pack approached,, leader Obrist hit the stalled car of Bemis at nearly full speed. The ensuing crash caused considerable damage to both cars but neither driver was injured. Owen riddle then took over the point with a strong run until being overtaken by Kalsch on lap 43. The defending champ held on the remaining laps for the victory. Riddle finished second, with rich Peters third. Ray Wallace and Tom Pollock rounded out the top five.

Popular Buck Noel Jr. scored his second main event win in a row with a convincing win in the super stock division. Dusty John took the lead at the3 start and held off eventual winner Noel until lap 12. Rich Peter, piloting a new car just purchased this past week, made his super stock debut in fine fashion with a second place finish. Chet Beaman Jr., Dusty John and Brandon Haley filled out the top five positions.

In the Hobby division, a big field of 22 cars started the main event. Young Marcus Maggard captured the 35 lap main event in the most exciting main of the evening. The winner was not decided until the checkers flew, as 10 battled for the win. Maggard, was dogged by Ben St.Mary, Rich Peters, Bryan Moser. Don Klang, Ken Mullins and the rest of the huge field that had the good crowd on their feet during the entire race. Chris Richter Jr., Todd Connell, Jason Wilmoth and Billy Benge rounded out the top finishers.
