
IRWINDALE, Calif. – In celebration of Mother’s Day on May 13 Irwindale Speedway will honor moms in attendance during this Saturday night’s (May 12) motor racing activities. The first 200 mothers entering the gates will receive a pink rose courtesy of the Speedway.
In addition, contests will be held throughout the evening providing moms in attendance with the opportunity to win prizes. Vista Paint, 700 Huntington Hotel, Auto Club of Southern California, Irwindale Chamber of Commerce, G & K Burgers, LA Racing Experience, Martin’s Famous Louisiana Sausage, ACRS Carpet Cleaning Services, Noriega Enterprises, Sparkle Auto Wash, J&E Florist and Tucker Tire are just some of the companies who will be giving away a variety of items and services.
Four races headline Saturday’s action including the Auto Club Late Models, Vista Paint Super Stocks, Justice Brothers Mini Stocks and BG Products Pure Stocks.
Doug McComb of Thousand Oaks, Calif. leads the Auto Club Late Model division standings but it was Chris Carmody of Valencia who showcased his driving talent on April 28 overtaking 18-year old rookie Jace Meier of Las Vegas, NV for the lead late in the race and going on to win despite encountering a flat tire on the final lap.
Vista Paint Super Stocks 2006 champion Bryan Harrell of Riverside has won two consecutive races but holds only a slim two point lead over Darren Cheek of San Bernardino who has a victory and two second place finishes in the first three division races of the season.
Justice Brothers Mini Stocks 2006 champion Tyler Rogers of Riverside continues his success with two victories in the first three races of the season leading the division with a ten point cushion over Rich Garver of Torrance.
Jeff Elder of Redlands holds a two point lead over Ron Davis of Norwalk in the BG Products Pure Stocks division standings. Reigning champion Rick Crow of Simi Valley is in third place.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with qualifying sessions to determine starting grids. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session will take place on the track at 5:45 p.m. with the first green flag waved at 7 p.m.

Test and Tune, the popular drag racing activity held weekly takes place this Thursday (May 10) under the lights from 5-10p.m. The activity allows local drag racers the opportunity race their street legal cars on Irwindale Speedway’s 1/8-mile drag strip. It costs only $20.00 to race, $10.00 to watch ($5.00 for kids 12-6 yrs. and 5 yrs. and under are admitted for free).

Auto Club of Southern California members receive a 10% discount off of the purchase of up to four (4) adult general admission tickets for Saturday oval racing when they show their AAA membership card. Auto Club members can also receive discounts on special offers at the concession and souvenir stands.
