5 RACES / 5 DIFFERENT WINNERS - ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE

UPLAND, California -- “This may be something that never will be duplicated,” said an obviously surprised Jay Rutherford, president of the ASA Speed Truck Challenge. “Our race at the very tough road course on Firebird International Speedway on May 5th saw a 5th different driver in the winner’s circle in as many races in 2007. This is truly amazing and I remain confident that the balance in our Van Gordon Racing Engine package and in our Mr. Gasket - Mallory / ACCEL ignition program is reaping rewards in a very evenly matched fashion in 2007 for each of the series competitions.”

The ASA Speed Truck Challenge, has long had an excellent reputation of quality drivers, a diverse racing schedule of circle track and road courses, and a number of winners of all ages each year, however, it has truly experienced just how competitive and evenly matched each of the Speed Trucks are this season. The 5 winning drivers have been; 46 year old veteran Jim Putman in the #12 Proformance Grading Dodge Dakota at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway; 2006 Rookie of the Year, 15 year old Randel King in the Hype Manufacturing Chevy Colorado at Orange Show Speedway; 14 year old Bear Rzesnowiecky #3 in the United Racing Chevy S-10 at Havasu 95 Speedway; the #80 Victor Pfluger, at 16 years old and with four-time fast qualifier awards in 2007 winning at Tucson Raceway Park in his Dodge Dakota with Parker Farms and Copperstate Tire Company on board; and 42 year old 2002 / 2006 Series Champion, #18 Darren Young in the United Racing Chevy S-10 at Firebird International Speedway. Readers may go to www.speedtruck.com and read stories on how these excellent drivers and their teams have overcome various obstacles to win at each race.

“The really interesting thing about this,” remarked Rutherford “is that we have all of the Speed Truck drivers within 7/10 of a second from fastest to slowest qualifying at each oval track. When you mix this fact with the way each team now has a feel for the tracks we are running this year; we could have many more first-time winners. I am thrilled.” Rutherford is celebrating his 11th racing season of the ASA Speed Truck Challenge and knows everything there is to know about his Speed Trucks, reviewing the specification rules constantly with his Officials and Rules Committee members to make the racing aptitude of his drivers very special indeed. The series runs on 8 different oval and road course race tracks in California, Arizona and Nevada. By the time these Speed Truck drivers spend a couple years on this circuit, according to Rutherford, they are truly ready to race any track in the country.

“We have 7 more races in the 2007 season and I fully expect many more exciting things to happen, proving that we’ve got one of the best series in motorsports,” Rutherford exclaimed. “Makes you feel good when you see your Speed Truck racers move up the ladder to professional racing. ASA Speed Truck Challenge…We Build Champions…can’t say much more than that!”

The series next race is California Speedway on June 2nd. This special event will allow the all of the fans to come inside the speedway and hang out in special areas with the Speed Truck drivers, crews and sponsors and witness a very special race for just $10.00. The tunnel entrance gate in turn 4 opens at 8:00 am Saturday morning with practice beginning at 8:30 and racing at 3:00 PM…don’t miss this one! The ASA Touring Car Racing Association and ASA Formula TR divisions will be racing on the tough 1.5 mile road course with the ASA Speed Truck Challenge. These ASA divisions will have over 100 race cars and trucks on site at California Speedway for your enjoyment.
