When David Mayhew unloads his car for this Sunday's NASCAR Grand National Division Featherlite Coaches 200 at Iowa Speedway, the HPS/Victory Circle/Attune Systems Chevrolet will be sporting a different number than usual.
Due to the race being a combination event with both the Busch East Series and the West Series competing, some drivers use the same car number. In Mayhew's case, he shares the number 26 with Scott Bouley. Since Mayhew will have missed two races by the time the Iowa race happens (Altamont and Elko), his position in the West points standings is lower than Bouley's is in the East. Hence, Bouley gets the right to use 26. Mayhew's car will display the number 6.
"I don't care what the number is," Mayhew said of the change. "I'm just happy to be able to race. After losing the motor at Phoenix I wasn't sure if we would make it back to the track this year."
Mayhew used the number 6 last season when the NASCAR Elite Division Southwest Series in which Mayhew was competing had its first of two combination races with the Midwest Series at Colorado National Speedway.![]()
