Source: Altamont Raceway Park
The Eldorado Hotel Casino Westcar Late Model drivers will be competing in their third event of the year. Westcar Driver Garry Glenn was victorious in the first two events this season at the Ukiah Speedway and Shasta Raceway Park. The Westcar event will also mark the return of Altamont Motorsports Park 2006 Western Late Model Champion, Dave Byrd, who has decided to give it a go in a touring series this year. "I really enjoyed racing at Altamont last year," said Byrd. "I have so much respect for the other drivers and teams, they made our team step up our game." The Westcar series was originally scheduled to make their first appearance at the track on April 21st but the race was cancelled due to weather. The series has one other scheduled date at Altamont Motorsports Park on August 4th. NASCAR Whelen All-American Western Late Model driver Ryan Philpott will be gunning for his seventh victory in eight tries at Altamont Motorsports Park this season. Philpott retook victory lane last Saturday in a 75 lap event after coming in second, behind Eric Schmidt, the previous Saturday, May 12th. Also racing on Saturday will be the Pro-Truck Series, Formula-4s, American Limited Stock Car Series and the Grand American Modifieds. The Grand American Modified 40-lap event is sure to be a crowd pleaser as the racers battle it out for a prize of $1000 to win in an open show that should attract some of the top Modified talent in the area. Last Saturday GAM points leader, Tony Noceti, had to call it quits early in the race with engine problems, opening the door for newcomer, Thomas Leiby, to take the checkers. Fans will be looking to see if Noceti has fixed his engine bugs and is ready for a return to his winning ways this weekend. Chad Holman added a new face to victory lane in the American Limited Stock Car division last Saturday, taking the checkers of the 30 lap event on the 1/4-mile oval by nailing a restart on lap 23. ALSC driver and points leader Jim Dulla will be hungry to get back to victory lane after retiring early with damage in last Saturday's event. The Pro-Trucks are scheduled for a 20 lap shootout on the 1/4-mile oval while the Formula-4s will start and finish an evening of racing with two ten lap events on the road course.
Qualifying starts at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday with opening ceremonies scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Ticket pricing is $25 General Admission , $20 for Seniors and $16 for youth. See Also .: News Index | E-mail to a Friend Article posted by RacingWest.com staff on 06/01/2007. http://www.racingwest.com
