CHAVEZ EXTENDS SUPER LATE MODEL POINTS LEAD WITH SECOND WIN AT ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAYSAN BERNARDINO, California -- Rick Chavez overcame 13 rivals and seven caution flags to capture his second Hype Manufacturing Super Late Model main event of the season Saturday night at Orange Show Speedway.

Chavez, 46, a trucking company owner from Santee, went into the sixth of the series’ 15 races with a large lead in the point standings and made it even more comfortable with his sixth straight top four finish. He is the only Super Late Model driver to finish in the top five in every event.

He started fourth after setting fast time in his RC Trucking/Lyle Hunter Tax Service Ford. He moved into third on the third lap of the quarter-mile paved oval when the first incident of the night sidelined defending champion Glen Cummings, who got together with Chavez while fighting for third on the front straightaway.

Nine laps later, leaders John Manke and Frankie Gould got together and Chavez inherited a lead he never relinguished during the remainder of the 40-lap contest.

Mark Shackleford of Riverside got second and Wade Riddering of San Bernardino was third. Manke and Gould recovered to finish fourth and fifth, respectively, in front of a crowd of 1,219. That finish enabled Chavez to extend his lead over Gould from 26 to 34 points.

Eddie Secord of Oak Hills led all 30 laps of the ASA Pro 4 main event for his fourth straight win and fifth in six races in the Fiesta Village Pontiac Grand Prix. He has won every race he’s started, but is third in the standings because he missed the March 31 feature due to mechanical problems.

Jim Edmiston of Highland held off Matt Goodwin of Wildomar to win the best race of the evening, the 35-lap Stock Pony main. It was the fourth win in six starts for Edmiston, 46, the 2005 class champion.

Jered King of Phelan, in a BMW 318i, led all 25 laps of the ASA Factory Fours main event and Cliff Conklin of Big Bear had his Chevrolet Camaro in front throughout a Street Stock main event that was trimmed 25 laps to 15 due to a number of collisions.
