MORRISTOWN, Arizona -- As a kid Victor Pfluger had a dream; a dream to run the road course at Infineon Raceway. Beginning with a prodigal championship career in karting, championships in Dwarf Cars to becoming the youngest driver in history to win a feature race in the ASA Speed Truck Series, the 16 year old driver is now ready to tackle Infineon Raceway in a Grand National car. The youngster from Morristown, Arizona currently leads the points in the ASA Speed Truck Challenge and has had a great year in both the trucks and late models. Riding with this success Victor's team has submitted their entry form to run the Blue Lizard Sunscream 200 on the 23rd of June at Infineon. Once again the team will be under the command of Chuck Lahorgue who has consistently provided them with a front-running trucks and cars. "We are so grateful to Chuck for everything he has done - it’s hard to keep a car upfront on a shoestring budget and he pulls it off each race." Says Art Pfluger who is often the Chuck-in-Proxy with a cellphone pressed against his head and a wrench in both hands making adjustments to the cars while Chuck is in another state offering setup specifications.
Victor has been called the "Road Course Kid" ever since his record breaking win in the ASA Speedtruck race at St. John's Road Course in 2005, and for good reason. He has maintained consistent top 5 finishes in his road course career. His karting background has given him a unique edge when navigating right hand turns and chicanes.
While competing in karting a number of Pfluger's friends had an opportunity to tow to Infineon to run the kart circuit. The disappointment in not being able to attend at that time has solidified his resolve to make the show on the 23rd. "I'm so excited to be stepping up to the Grand Nationals for this event,” says Victor. "Our focus will be to familiarize ourselves with the series, the car and the track, I am confident my team and I can make a good showing."
However, as with so many young drivers, funding a foray into this level is a big challenge. "We are really hoping that we can get a spotlight sponsor to come onboard for this race; and time is running out." Says team owner and father of Victor, Art Pfluger. Young racers are a hot commodity right now, and with the success of kids like Joey Logano and Marc Davis we are confident that a savvy sponsor will take note of Victor's road course success and join forces at the ground floor of venture.
To sweeten the deal for sponsors, the race will be televised live on HDNet with an enhanced replay on SPEED TV. This kind of national coverage is a huge plus when presenting sponsorship benefits to prospective sponsors.
