Hard charging, fender rubbing, short track excitement was only the beginning to the main events at Evergreen Speedway Saturday Night. Early leader in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks Lex Johnson looked strong as the field got things sorted out behind him. Darin Stordahl followed along in second as two-time defending champion Shane Harding locked horns with former two time champion John Zaretzke. Harding moved aggressively past Stordahl and Johnson to take command of the race as Zaretzke shadowed him to the front. A couple cautions later, a green/white then checkered flag finish was in order. Zaretzke gave Harding a true short track solid bump coming out of turn two and took the lower groove away. After that, things got real hairy, real quick. The two tangled and bumped down the backstretch finally wrecking on the high side of turn three. Lex Johnson took the win with Darin Stordahl finishing second and a pleased Jeff Holden rounding out the podium in third.
The Les Schwab Tires Bombers were equally entertaining. Early Leader Chad McKay relinquished the lead to James Mugge who held on for the win. But that's not the whole story. Several yellow flags flew for what had become a "Battle Royale" with a full field of cars. Early trouble for Brian Cottrell put him out, but what he missed may have sent him there anyway! Post race "visits" with Director of Racing Tobey Butler resulted in current points leader Travis Blackwood's disqualification and Lane Sundholm (11 points out of the lead) being relegated to last place finishing position. The championship battle includes at least the top 13 cars in the division.
Josh Beckel after having major problems in the Crash Car! race earlier took out his frustrations running a masterful race and collecting the trophy in the Stinger Eight Main. Mighty Mouse dominated once again in the Crash Cars! However, as usual, refused to stop for the trophy leaving it for "The Barber" who picked up his first ever trophy! Newbie Crash Car! driver "Smashing Pumpkin" caused the havoc for "Crusher" starting out his career a little on the rough side. Super Figure Eights ran a tough main to end the night with "Mr. Dizzy" Mike Buse winning his first main of the year in a green to checkered run holding off points leader Sean Peters. Buse earned "Little Nickel Driver of the Night" honors for his efforts. Hornets ran two spectacular mains adding to the already busy and thrilling night.![]()
