GRAHAM, Washington --Montana’s Raceway Park in Kalispell, Montana is set to bring the best northwest late model racers to their high-banked .250-mile oval. The ARCA West Q-Racing Late Model Challenge Series race #5 of 10 could be a turning point for the 2007 prestigious championship.
Many of the regulars of the AWLMCS are expected to be challenged by a strong contingent of local late model racers. Two of the Northwest’s best are in a tight battle for the 2007 championship. Gary Lewis (Bothell, WA) and Jeff Jefferson (Naches, WA) are not strangers to winning championships. Both have won local track and major traveling series championships. A mere 32-points is all that separates Lewis from Jefferson in their quest to win a first ever AWLMCS championship.
Lewis and Jefferson have each had a AWLMCS win this season. Another icon of northwest late model racing with over 300 career wins, Garrett Evans (E. Wenatchee, WA) has won the other two races.
The strong local contingent could spoil the party. Last year’s winner of the AWLMCS 125-lap main at MRP, Alex Lessor (Kalispell, MT) would be willing to keep the 2007 championship chase in suspense. Or could another local such as: Micah Sampson (Kalispell, MT), Agni Howell (Kalispell, MT), Cory Wolfe (Ronan, MT), Mark Owens (Kalispell, MT), Rocky Erickson (Columbia Falls, MT) or Bodie Morton (Kalispell, WA) change the outcome of the season standings.
A full compliment of expected traveling regulars will add to the mix of the Bud Light, Glacier Toyota & BEE Broadcasting Firecracker USA 125. Currently still in the AWLMCS points picture just 121-points back Brent Harris (E. Wenatchee, WA), last seasons rookie of the year Shelby Thompson (Spokane, WA), a former winner of NASCAR Grand National races Kevin Richards (Newman Lake, WA), fresh off a win at Stateline Stadium Speedway Brandon Riehl (Boring, OR) and two leading candidates for the Port City Racecars Rookie of the Year, Erick Hargraves (Yakima, WA) and Jim Warn (Aurora, OR). Over twenty top notch racers are expected for this major event.
