BRIAN ICKLER WINS DOUGLAS

ROSEBURG, Oregon – Brian Ickler scored his first career victory in the NASCAR Grand National Division, West Series with a win in the BI-MART Firecracker 150 at Douglas County Speedway on Saturday.

Ickler, who started fourth on the grid, picked his way forward to the runner-up spot and then inherited the lead when Mike David’s car faltered on a restart 15 laps from the finish.

Ickler pulled away for the win, with Johnny Borneman battling his way to second and series rookie Jason Bowles taking third. Another series rookie, Alex Haase, and Jim Inglebright rounded out the top five.

David, who led the championship standings heading into the event, limped to a 15th-place finish with mechanical trouble. Despite his problems, David retained the points lead – with 1,218 points over Borneman, who moved to second in the standings with 1,136. Justin Lofton, who led the initial 63 laps of the race, also encountered a mechanical problem and finished 18th.

The win secured a spot in the 2007 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown for Ickler, who became the seventh different race winner in eight events. Under the new format introduced this year, only Grand National race winners and champions of the NASCAR Developmental Series will be locked into the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown field.####
