BENNETT WINS NW TOUR RACE AT YAKIMA YAKIMA, Washington -- It looked like that Jeff Barkshire would be the car to beat as he set fast time and took the lead on lap 20 only to cut a tire on lap 33 and go off the track on turn one. Travis Bennett took the lead on lap 92 when leader Brandon Riehl lost a right front tire. Mike Longton tried for several laps to test Bennett until Kelly Tanner tried to challenge Longton for second place. When the checkers flew, Bennett had about eight car lengths on second placer Longton and third place Tanner. Pete Harding was expected to attend this event, but showed his concern for not making it and sent an apology to be read over the loud speaker to all the fans.

The Foreign Stock Car Racing Association had a scare as Bud Rumsey went off the backstretch. It took the expertise of the track crew to get Rumsey and his car out and back to the pits. The main event saw Steve Thompson take the checkers along with fast time. Wayne Dillion followed in second place with John Grosvenor in third.

The Yakima Super Stocks saw a lot of action as Buck Noel Jr. take the lead only to turn it over to Jeff Mullins until lap 21 when Noel took over the lead again after Mullins lost control. Noel held on to the lead until the last lap when Brian Pepper past Noel for the lead putting Noel in second and Dusty John taking third.

The H&H Furniture Hobby Stocks had several challenges for first place as Gene Wachtel took the lead only to be past by Mel Patnode on the outside on lap nine. Bill Benge challenged Patnode for several laps on the outside as both raced door handle to door handle until Wachtel tried to make it three wide in the middle of turn three from the inside. All three made it into turn four when Patnode and Wachtel touched and sending Benge and Patnode off the track. Wachtel stayed in the lead until the last lap when slow traffic allowed Todd Connell to pass in the inside to take the win. Wachtel followed in second with the fan favorite Jerry Walker Jr. taking third.

The next race will be sponsored by Evans and Son on Saturday, July 14th with the Yakima Late Models with the Yakima Super Stocks, H & H Furniture Hobbies, Bump to Pass, and the ever popular Hornets.
