REPEAT WINNERS AT YAKIMA SPEEDWAY

YAKIMA, Washington -- Local racers, Ron Bemis, in the ASA late models and Brian Pepper, in the super stocks, scored their consecutive second and third main event wins in their respective classes Saturday night. Mel Patnode captured the hobby stock event with Jessie Eaton winning the hornet main and Tyson Richter capturing the bump to pass division.

A large crowd had a varied night of entertainment with the races and a thrill show by Dr. Danger. The nights events were capped off with Dr. Danger blowing up a car with gasoline while he was inside. The resulting explosion and fire had the crowd on their feet until they spotted the stuntman emerging, on fire, from the car.

The late model action was just as hot with Rick Christopherson taking the lead on lap one. The 2006 super stock champ held the lead as the rest of the field pressured him from behind. Portlands Dan Obrist applied strong pressure until mechanical woes ended his evening on lap 36. Ron Bemis continued the fight until lap 43 of the 50 lap event. Bemis made a strong outside move in turn two to take the lead that he held until the checkered. Christopherson was second with Lon Werremeyer finished a strong third. Owen Riddle and Dan Beecher rounded out the top five.

Young Brian Pepper made it three wins in a row in the super stock division. Veteran Andy Beaman held the point until lap twelve when Pepper made a strong inside move entering turn one, to take the lead. Pepper held on for the win in the 25 lap event.

Mel Patnode won the hobby division 30 lap main event. Patnode, the first repeat winner of 2007, beat a field of 16 very competitive cars in this popular class. The season points totals have at least 10 drivers with a good chance of becoming the season champ.

Tyson Richter won the bump to pass race and Jessie Eaton took top honors in the hornet race.

Next event will be held August 11, 2007. Five classes of cars will make for another exciting evening of family entertainment.####
