BAKERSFIELD, California -- As the youngest driver in the SRL series, Brennan Newberry knows what it feels like to be looking over his shoulder on the track. Now that the Flashco #09 ride has been taking care of business on the track, Newberry has been looking over his shoulder off the tack as well. New sponsors, elevated media attention and prominent racing teams have been asking about the seventeen-year old on a regular basis.
“Brennan has remained as focused as I’ve ever seen him”, states his father , team owner, spotter and some-time Crew Chief, Bob Newberry. As the NTS Motor Sports team prepares for this weekend’s race at Altamont Speedway, Brennan seems to be taking it all in stride when he says, “Our Head Mechanic, Curtis Perry, has done such an incredible job with this car that he’s kept my confidence level very high.” Combined with Perry’s efforts, the “official” Crew Chief, Mike Harvick seems just as satisfied. “Mike was very impressed with our top-five finish last week in Shasta, and his belief in Brennan remains as strong as when we committed to this series”, states father, Bob.
Last week’s race was a significant step for the Flashco car, as it propelled Brennan from deep in the pack to the fifth-place finish. The word in the pits was that the #09 was the fastest car on the track late in the race, but a bit of trouble here and there can always keep a fast car down. So, instead of accepting a bad break, Newberry battled his way back, and in doing so received the SRL “Hard Charger Award”, increasing his stature amongst the proven teams in the increasingly popular SRL crowd. “Brennan has quietly and respectfully worked very hard to earn these veteran drivers’s approval, and because of his work ethic, I believe he’s making a good name for himself on and off the track – we’re very proud of him”, states Vance Palm, Director of Business Development for Flashco, Inc.
Recently, the NTS Motor Sports team unveiled their new Flashco hauler, and amongst the invitees was Marion Collins, founder of the iconic Mesa Marin track and point man for the new track in Bakersfield. Mr. Collins has a new-found respect for young Brennan when he says, “This young man could go a long way if he keeps working hard.” So far, the seventeen-year old is holding up his end of the bargain.
The SRL is one of the premier stock car racing series in the country. The series has patterned itself after NASCAR with beautifully prepared cars and support vehicles, and identifiable team uniforms. This seventh season looks to break all attendance records, attracting over 70 seasoned drivers from all over California and the southwestern states. Local and regional stock car fans can also cheer for new stars that will someday drive the machines of NASCAR. The series is a training ground, not only for drivers but for mechanics, chief mechanics and engineers. This series is great for fans who love live action on a hot weekend. www.srllatemodels.com
