
Ladies Night Out at Skagit Speedway featured great Saturday night summer weather and hot racing action on the track. The 410 Sprint winner was Barry Martinez, Eric Fisher won the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprint feature, his second in a row and Jake Smart won a thrilling Wilson Auto Brokers Outlaw Hornet main. As the 2007 race season gets closer to the Season Championships the point races get tighter with division point leaders finding it harder to find winners circle.
Brock Lemley set fast time to kick off the evening for the 410 Sprints clocking an 11.681 lap. Lemley rolled a four after heat races to set the invert. Heat race wins were picked up by Jayme Barnes and Colton Heath. Driving the Bob and Lori Scott 7s was Rick Ziehl of Las Cruces, New Mexico and he took off like a rocket on the start of the main event. On the third lap Martinez found room underneath heading into turn one and slid up in front coming out of turn two into the lead he would never relinquish. Colton Heath, Travis Jacobson and Brock Lemley would all make furious charges from the back of the pack to the front. Heath and Jacobson finished the night in the pits victims of a flip and motor woe respectively. Lemley however would execute a late race pass of Ziehl and take home second. Ziehl finished third with Steve Kilcup fourth and Bob Stevens fifth.
In the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints only three drivers have won main events this year, point leader Kevin Smith, third in points Kelleigh Johnson and now back-to-back wins for second in points Eric Fisher. Fisher led all 20 laps for the win and closed the gap on Smith who finished second ahead of Wes Tyra, Johnson and Jeff Voter. Tyra held off Smith for second for much of the race, but slower traffic put Smith in a position for a late race pass for the second place finish. Johnson and Smith won the heat races.
The Wilson Auto Brokers Outlaw Hornets continue to feature over 30 cars a night. Wendy Johnson and Greg Hibma won the heat races. Hibma led the first 13 laps of the 17 lap main before Jake Smart split two cars and took over the lead he would not relinquish. On lap 16 Mason Bradfield rolled over on the front stretch bringing out the red flag. Top five were Smart, Hibma, Ken Higby, Freddy Vela, and Mike Powers Sr.
Thank you to Jeff Westergard, Shane Westergard and Steven Hendrickson for bringing their 600cc Mini Sprints to the track to run two exhibition races. Shane Westergard won the five lap heat and Hendrickson won the 10 lap feature.![]()
