ANTELOPE, California -- “Monroe is fun but is really a challenging track to race,” said Moses Smith, the rookie driver from Bill McAnally Racing. Smith drives the #18 HASA Pool Supply/White Flyer Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for BMR in the NASCAR Grand National Division West Series. The team finished sixth at the NAPA 300 presented by Basalite at Evergreen Speedway August 4th.
“The #18 HASA Chevrolet handled really well in practice but during qualifying, the car was a little loose, “continued Smith. “Qualifying 16th forced the team to be a little greedy with their pit strategy but it would pay off as we moved into 6th place before the 300 lap race was over.”
This finish would earn Smith the Hard Charger Award for advancing the most spots and the Sunoco Rookie of the Race award for being the highest finishing rookie.
The #18 team from BMR would like to thank HASA Pool Products for all their support at the NAPA 300. Over 700 customers and employees packed the hospitality tent in turn two at Evergreen Speedway. Their cheers for the #18 HASA team could be heard by driver Moses Smith as he took the green flag.
The teams from BMR will next race the road course of California Speedway in the California “125” on August 11th, 2007. This will be the first time the series will race on the 2.8 mile road course.
“Racing the road course at California Speedway will be action packed,” said Smith. “It should have a lot of head to head racing. It has the long straightaway but also a lot of very tight corners and curves. The set up of the car is crucial at a track like this but I know that crew chief Duane Knorr and the boys back at the BMR shop will get it done.”
