LEMLEY STRETCHES POINTS LEAD IN SKAGIT SPEEDWAY 410 SPRINT DIVISION

BURLINGTON, Washington -- With just two point races left in the 2007 Skagit Speedway racing season, Brock Lemley widened the 410 points lead scoring 9 more points on the evening and winning the 25-lap main event.

With 17 wins in open wheel racing this season Brock Lemley has to be considered one of the hottest drivers in the country. Leading all 25 laps of the 410 Sprint Main this evening Lemley widened his point lead as he aims for his first ever Skagit Speedway track championship. Lemley sat inside second row after qualifying third fast and watching Rutz roll a ZERO for a straight up start for the Sprint Car classes. On the initial green flag, Rutz spun in turn one almost tipping the car over, sending him to the back for the restart. That moved Lemley onto the poll and on the start he beat Mitch Olson back to the start finish line and led all 25 laps for the win. Olson was second, with Martinez, Rick Ziehl and Colton Heath rounding out the top five.

The last car to time in for the evening was Canadian sensation Travis Rutz who set fast time at 11.813. Heath backed up last weeks strong run with another heat race win, Barry Martinez also won a heat.

It was Greg Sandquist setting fast time for the Budweiser 360 Sprints at 12.089. Visiting driver Shawn Rice won his heat race, with Robby Vaughn and Seth Bergman winning the other two heats. Dan Pierson led all 10 laps of the B-Main event to move up with Andy Jacobson and Martin Koetje to the A Main starting lineup.

At the drop of the green flag, Cory Chamberlain took off hard and deep into turn one and was never caught. Chamberlain won for the first time in ten years according to his winners circle interview after the race. Rounding out the top five were Steve Kilcup from his sixth starting position, Sandquist, Rod Perkins and Vaughn.

Kelleigh Johnson had a busy day. The Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprint driver was in the Skagit County Fair Parade, then to the track for his daughters Quarter Midget race, then showed his car at the Shell Refinery Employee party at the racetrack, then sweeping the divisions races of the night. Johnson won his heat, then put on one heck of show for the fans in the feature.

First, Johnson beat point leader Kevin Smith into the first turn then held off the repeated challenges of Smith early on. Three yellow flags caused restarts each one with a similar theme as Johnson would beat his fellow competitors into the first corner then move away. Eric Fisher had something for Johnson though catching and passing him for two laps on the 16th and 17th circuit. Johnson wouldn't let that ride though, battling back to the lead spot on lap 18 and holding on for the win. MArc Schutte had a best ever second place finish followed by Jarrid Zimmerman, Steve James and Fisher in fifth. Smith won the other heat.

The Wilson Auto Broker Outlaw Hornets heat races were won by Wendy Johnson and Mike Ploeg. The 17-lap main event saw 3 lead changes. Ploeg led the first lap before giving way to Nils Freeman. Freeman held the lead for 13 laps holding off Clayton Delano and Greg Hibma before Ben Gunderson came from out of nowhere and took the lead on lap 15 for the win. Stacey Day flipped her 9p car in turn two bringing out the only red flag of the event.####
