OPEN WHEEL MADNESS STRIKES AGAIN AT ALTAMONT MOTORSPORTS PARK ON SATURDAY NIGHT

TRACY, California - Racing fans will be treated once again to a high-powered, high-octane Open Wheel Madness night at Altamont Motorsports Park this Saturday as the USAC/CASA Sprints hit the 1/2-mile oval while the Ford Focus Midgets try to tame the 1/4-mile oval. The Thunder Roadsters will be making their first appearance at the track while fans will also be entertained by another visit from the Legends of the Pacific.

Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. is scheduled replace his brother Tanner for the Lucas Oil USAC Western Sprint race as Tanner is expected to compete in Saturday's USAC Carolina Ford Focus Series race at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, N.C.

Kody Swanson, the son of former Supermodified standout Mike Swanson, is ninth in the series points and opened this year's Western Sprint Car campaign by winning the first two races at Madera, Calif. and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Tanner won the last two races at Altamont Motorsports Park and is the youngest USAC Sprint feature winner ever at age 16 years, five months. Tanner won his last race at Altamont Motorsports Park on July 14th by charging to the front after starting eight deep in the field.

Ryan Kaplan currently leads in the Western Sprint standings followed closely by JoJo Helberg and Tony Hunt who are nine and ten points back, respectively.

In 2006, Altamont Motorsports Park was awarded the Race Organizer of the Year Award by the United States Automobile Club (USAC) racing organization.

Tim Skoglund currently has a 41 point lead over Nic Faas in the Ford Focus Midget Series. Beau DeBard of Reno, Nev. won the last Midget race at Altamont Motorsports Park, leading all 35 laps in the feature on the 1/4-mile oval.

Fans can also expect entertainment from the Legends of the Pacific and Thunder Roadsters. Thunder Roadsters resemble the roadsters that dominated the Indianapolis 500 and Indy Car racing through the 1950s and 1960s. Gates open at 2pm, qualifying starts at 2:30 p.m. and opening ceremonies are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Ticket pricing is $25 General Admission , $20 for Seniors and $15 for youth.
