ASA NORTHWEST TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP SEPTEMBER 2

MARYSVILLE, Washington – On Sunday September 2 at Yakima Speedway, Yakima, Washington the ASA Aero Exhaust Northwest Tour concludes their inaugural season. BJ Tidrick (Yakima, WA) will look to win the first tour championship under the ASA banner. The NWT was formerly under the auspices of NASCAR for 22-years.

The new ASANWT has had its struggles in this first season. It started with an on-again off-again early in the year. It was revived by a group of interested people led by Ron Bennett. This late decision cost the Tour, cars and race dates. Car counts have been slowly increasing and the last race of 2007 will set a new standard with 20-committed for the Sunday finale.

Bennett and his staff have endured through this rebuilding season and to see such a good car count to end the season is encouraging to all. With the 2008 engine rules already out the drivers are positive about the direction the Tour is headed. With the announcement soon to follow regarding the tracks that will be hosting an ASA Northwest Tour race in 2008. Everything is upbeat for 2008 and the continuation of this long standing premier series.

Besides the good car count there is also a close championship point’s chase. Tidrick has a 32-point advantage over Jay Sauls (Puyallup, WA) and 37 up on Kelly Tanner (Auburn, WA).

The drivers that have committed as of Tuesday morning August 28, 2007 are locals BJ Tidrick, Mike Longton, Travis Bennett, Jarod Crum, Zach Niesner and Ken Olson.

Others that will finish their respective Tour season on the fabled .500-mile oval are tour regulars Kelly Tanner, Matt Hall, Kevin Moland, Ron Eaton, Jay Sauls and Brandon Riehl.

Others that are committed are Garrett Evans, Jason Fraser, Gary Lewis, Pete Harding, Wilbur Bruce, Mark Sundberg, Jim Warren, and Matt Klaas. There are others that will be committing as the week progresses.

The day kicks off on Sunday of the Labor Weekend at 2:00pm for practice sessions. Front gates will open at 4:00pm with qualifying for the 150-lap main starting at 5:00pm followed by the main event later in the evening.
