CLERMONT, Indiana For the fourth year in a row, a Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod has clinched the top prize in the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle. But, for the third time, Andrew Hines is the top dog collecting the coveted crystal trophy and $25,000 paycheck.
On Hines’ venture to the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle Winner’s Circle, he defeated Antron Brown in the first round, Matt Smith in semifinals and Chip Ellis, for the second year in a row, in the finals.
The riders who bowed out in first round of eliminations were Antron Brown, Steve Johnson, rookie Battle rider Karen Stoffer and Craig Treble. Each rider picked up $3,500 for their efforts.
In semifinals, Ellis defeated Angelle Sampey and 2007 Battle winner Hines eliminated Smith from victory contention. Sampey and Smith each took home $6,000 each.
Hines outran Ellis 7.005/189.31 mph to 7.069/186.64 to collect his third Ringers Gloves Waterford crystal trophy. Ellis wasn’t completely forgotten for being the runner-up; his G-Squared S&S Buell team went home with $10,000 from the banquet last evening.
The Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle points have been reset to zero and riders started earning points for the 2008 Battle starting today. Ellis picked up the Ringers Gloves Pro Bike Battle low qualifier plaque this morning in pre-race ceremonies.
