BAKERSFIELD, CA -- More than 50 NASCAR drivers and teams are scheduled for testing this week at Mesa Marin Raceway in preparation for the biggest short-track event of the year, the $225,000 October Classic, October 20 -22. For 24 years Mesa Marin has closed its season with "the Classic" which has won the distinction of America’s Premier Short-Track Event. This year’s "Classic" will feature drivers from throughout the nation, including Bakersfield’s own Kevin Harvick who is the leader in this year’s NASCAR Busch Series Rookie-of-the-Year title chase.
Today, drivers making test runs include defending NASCAR Winston West Series October Classic champion, Sean Woodside - who is going for his historic fourth consecutive October Classic victory. Other drivers scheduled for today; Steve Portenga, Dan Holtz - the 1999 Race of Champions winner, Rod Johnson - the 1999 Irwindale Speedway champion, Steve Stanton, Dennis Reynolds, Dan Larson and David Pook.
