Kevin Hamlin returns to the No. 4 Open Joist Dodge Saturday night at Las Vegas. It will be Hamlin’s fifth start for Bobby Hamilton Racing and his first since Memphis in June.
v He will be making his first career NASCAR series start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. Hamlin tested a Busch car for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabatas earlier this season at LVMS.
v Hamlin, along with along with several other NCTS drivers, will sign autographs at the Stratosphere Las Vegas Hotel & Casino at 7pm on Friday evening.
v Hamlin will pilot “Magnum” in the Las Vegas 350. This particular chassis is new to the BHR stable and competed for the first time at Gateway earlier this month.
Hamlin on Vegas: “This will be the first time I have ever raced at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I have tested there twice in a Busch car. I really enjoyed getting to know the track during the tests. It is lighting fast. I think we are coming back with the same tire we tested for the Busch Series. They are very hard and just have no grip. It will provide a little bit of a challenge in the beginning. Hopefully, my experience with the harder tire will pay off when we unload on Saturday.”
Crew Chief Marcus Richmond on the Importance of the Entire Race Shop: “It is really easy in our sport for the road guys to get all the glory. We are the ones who go to the race track every week and ultimately the ones who get the chance to mingle with the fans, but there is a whole other group that helps make our lives easier. I have to really commend our fab shop this week. They built a brand new truck before Gateway. Bliss was involved in a pretty major crash during that race. It totaled everything from the cab of the truck back to the spoiler and had to have an entire body put back on it. I told them after Gateway that I really wanted to take Magnum to Las Vegas even though it looked as bad as it did. In less than 10 working days they had Mangum in tip top shape. When we walked in this morning it was ready to go to the set up plate. Without them working while we were gone to New Hampshire we would have never been able to get it done. It just goes to show you how much this is a team sport.”
