DAY ONE OF THE 20TH ANNUAL FALL CLASSIC RESULTSYAKIMA, Washington – The first of the three day ‘Fall Classic’ at Yakima Speedway closed with Gary Lewis (Snohomish, WA) continuing the Cinderella season he is enjoying. Lewis won the 30-lap Race of Champions without brakes for the final laps. Jason Fraser (Snohomish, WA) finished second with Erick Hargraves (Yakima, WA) taking third.

Lewis who drew the #1 slot for the Race of Champions had the opportunity to draw for the distance the race would be. There were three options 30, 40 & 50-laps. Lewis wanted 50 but drew 30. As Lewis pulled into victory circle with smoke pouring off the front brakes he said, “I wanted to go 50-laps but my luck is holding. If we had gone 50 I would not have been able to finish.”

Fraser had took up to many laps to move from his ninth starting position. By the time he passed Hargraves for second Lewis had a 3.5 second advantage. As they crossed the finish line Fraser had cut the deficit to .5 seconds.

Lewis has had a season most racers only dream about. He won four ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series races on his way to the championship. Won both the Montana and Idaho 200’s in his first ever attempt. Throw in a win of an ASA Northwest Tour race at Yakima, multiple fast times and now the 2007 Bud Clarey Toyota presented by CWI Security Race of Champions, it just keeps going in his direction.

The first day of qualifying for the Limited Late Models had 25 cars take to the cool race surface of the 1/2-mile oval. Gary Lewis holds the lead with a time of :19.250 seconds. Kevin Richards (Newman Lake, WA) was just .020 seconds off Lewis’ time. Mark Owens (Kalispell, MT), Fraser and Hargraves rounded out the top five. There are more cars yet to qualify as they will make their attempts on Saturday afternoon.

The Late Models also held their first day of qualifying and the top two were reversed from the Limited order. Richards was quickest of the 22-cars attempting with a time of :19.025 seconds. Lewis was second just .056 off the pace set by Richards. Shelby Thompson (Spokane, WA), Fraser and Owens made up the top five.

Over 200 cars will be on hand for day two of the three day extravaganza. On Saturday September 29, the Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks both join the second round of qualifying for the Limited and Late Models. All the Saturday action gets underway at 12:00pm. Along with qualifying for all four divisions there are trophy dashes and heat races for all divisions. The featured events are the 60-lap Hobby Stock main followed by the 125-lap Limited Late Model main.

Day three scheduled for Sunday September 30 will start at 1:00pm with a 75 lap main for the Street Stocks. The 200-lap 20th Annual Bud Clarey Toyota Fall Classic will cap off the weekend.
