
BAKERSFIELD, CA -- As the 24th Annual October Classic is just days away, a record number of teams have visited Mesa Marin Raceway for testing over the last twelve days. Over 60 teams representing the NASCAR Winston West Series, NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Late Models and the Ultra Wheels SPEC Truck Series have prepared for this $225,000 event.
In preparation for this Friday nights NASCAR Late Model "Big O Tires 200", Kevin Vernon is on top of the speed chart, followed closely by Craig Raudman, Tommy Fry, Jason Small, Sean Woodside and Rick Grissom.
In the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series division, Jon Nelson, Mark Reed, and Raudman were the fastest cars testing for Saturday’s Terry Lumber / Foods Co 200.
Winston West drivers who testing include point leader Brendon Gaughn, 3-time October Classic winner Woodside, 2000 Rookie-of-the-Year Mike Duncan, Jason Small, Dan Hotz, Davey Liniger and Sammy Potashnick.
October Classic NOTES:
Gaughan backed his NAPA Monte Carlo into the turn 3 wall during his first session.
Woodside spent three consecutive days testing a brand new Winston West car, Woodside is going for a record fourth consecutive October Classic NASCAR Winston West Series victory.
Raudman is scheduled to compete four events during the October Classic; the Winston West "Spears 250", the Southwest Series "Terry Lumber/Foods Co 200", the Late Model "Big O Tires 200", and the Super TT Motorcycle Series event.
Woodside will also compete in four events; the NASCAR Winston West Series, Southwest Series, the Late Model 200, and the Late Model "Golden West Trailer Sales Race of Champions Invitational".
Dan Holtz will run his first ever Winston West event, and compete in both the Late Model 200 and the "Race of Champions Invitational".
Prize money for the weekend will exceed $225,000.
