ANDERSON, California -- Fresh off his Championship winning season at the All American Speedway in Roseville, Golden State Racing’s #05 Eric Schmidt won the Win River Casino 125 for the Late Models at Shasta Raceway Park Saturday night, October 7th.
The thirty-one car field included several cars from different states, two from Canada and five past champions as well as Ryan Foster, a two-time winner himself. In winning, Schmidt becomes the only three-time winner in the twenty-eight year history of the prestigious race.
Team owner Frank Jordan said “The car was good off the truck when we got there on Friday. Saturday and Sunday morning were very trying. No matter what we tried we couldn’t get the tire to work for us.”
“We qualified eighth” Schmidt said, “but with the luck of the invert we started on the outside of Row one.
“Just before the A Main, we decided to try something completely different and switched out all four springs” said Crew Chief Eric Snyder. “That’s when we hit on the set up!”
Schmidt had only a few serious challenges throughout the race from veteran driver Ryan Foster. At one point it looked as though Foster would contend for the win but was taken out in a late race incident. With all due respect to all of the other drivers, the race was over at that instant. Schmidt led all one hundred and twenty-five laps on his way to victory.
Shasta Raceway Park Track Announcer Gary Moore who called the race said Schmidt was both “masterful and magical” when it came to picking off the lap traffic late in the race.”
“We come to win every race” Schmidt said. “My Golden State Racing Team is the best in the business! Thanks so much to each of the Sacramento fans who made the trip up to watch us! Thanks to each one of my sponsors: AT&T, Yellowpages.com, Hugin Components, Higgins Hardwood, Inventory Sales Company, Ramos Oil, Long Engine Systems, Prestige Gunite, Joiner Motorsports,
Racing Stripes, Sew-Cal Monogramming, Blakesley Sports Media, Holiday Inn Express, and Oxford Suites.”
Afterwards Schmidt said “We’ll celebrate tonight, but tomorrow morning we’ll start re-focusing on our next big race, The Big Dog 125 next weekend at Altamont Motorsports Park.”![]()
