After taking a year long break from the cockpit of the #74 Tri-Point Motorsports MAZDA6 , SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car and GT driver Dino Crescentini of Malibu, California will again pilot the team’s #74 at the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca the weekend of October 19-21. Crescentini contested the 2006 WCTC season with Tri-Point, finishing 13th in the driver standings with three top ten finishes and a season high finish of 8th. Crescentini then competed in the 2007 season opener in an Audi A4 with the STaSIS team, but has not competed in a SPEED Touring Car race since that time.

Dino is clearly enthused about his upcoming race with the Tri-Point team, and says, “when the opportunity arose to drive the Tri-Point Mazda for the Laguna Seca event, I quickly jumped at it. The Tri Point team member’s skill and camaraderie are like no other, and their results this year are a testament to that. I am both thrilled and proud to be back on the team for the last event of 2007.”

Crescentini’s return to the Tri-Point squad comes at a critical time for the team. Although Mazda clinched the manufacturer’s title with a Mazda win in the previous race at Road Atlanta and also due in large part to the season long efforts by the familiar blue and white MAZDA6s, the driver’s championship remains wide open. Tri-Point pilots Jeff Altenburg of Ellicott City, Maryland and Randy Pobst of Gainesville, Georgia currently sit first and second in the driver points standings respectively with a mere 19 points separating them. Defending series champion Pierre Kleinubing sits 10 points back of Pobst and also figures to potentially be in the mix.

The driver’s championship points battle aside, both Randy and Jeff are happy to see their teammate from 06 returning for the season finale. Says Pobst, “It'll be great to have Dino back with Tri-Point. We've missed him. He's a heckuva driver and always good company in the paddock.”

Altenburg adds, “It'll be nice to have Dino back on board for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. He is always fast and a great addition to the team. I'm sure he'll be up to speed within just a few laps.”

The SPEED World Challenge Touring Cars take to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for first practice at 8:50 am Friday October 19. The 50-minute race is scheduled to start at 12:00 noon on October 20. Log onto www.world-challenge.com for a full schedule of the weekend’s events. The race will be covered on SPEED on tape delay Saturday October 28 at 3:30 pm EST.####
