NASCAR SHOWDOWN TO BE DUNCAN'S LAST RACE UNDER LUCAS OIL BANNERIRWINDALE'S ALL STAR SHOWDOWN
Source: Vance Palm
![]() IRWINDALE, California– Two-time NASCAR Grand National Division West Series champion, Mike Duncan is the single, most identifiable driver/car owner in the west. His back-to-back championships in the series, combined with his pole dominance and overall, front-running team have become an element of the western region racing cognoscenti. That’s about to increase even more.
This weekend’s Toyota Showdown, here in Southern California will be the last time that MB Duncan Motor Sports will race with primary sponsor Lucas Oil on the hood. In 2003 Lucas Oil joined forces with Duncan, and the very first race was a trip to victory lane in Madera (CA). Two championships and a mountain of top fives, pole awards and another runner-up spot in this season’s series later, Duncan and Lucas Oil are shaking hands and wishing each other well. As Duncan is preparing to battle the best drivers in the Grand National Division, he slowed down long enough to reflect for a brief moment.
“Well, I just hope we end this deal the same way we started it”, said Duncan, alluding to the Madera win. “Lucas has a lot of visibility this weekend with a Busch car and a late model, but I feel that we’ve given them a lot of good exposure over the years, and we’d sure like to finish strong for them as well.” Duncan will drive his Chevrolet that also carries Ron’s Rear Ends and Greenfrogroastinco.com on it, and he hopes this weekend will catch the attention of numerous sponsors that he’s been in discussions with.
In talking of his times with the red, white and blue color scheme and the knockout looks of his hauler, Duncan grins and says, “Well, next year’s look will bring a whole new feel to the events for us, and I’m confident that the relationships that we’re building will be special ones.” Duncan would not elaborate on any specifics related to future sponsorships or naming rights to his success. In fact, he made no secret of letting the marketing world know that he’s “open for business”. He added this to his reflective talk:”If there are companies out there that have been considering getting into the sport, I can speak confidentially that our team will put them up front right out of the gate. They wouldn’t have to go through the growing pains of a team figuring things out – we’ll be up front pretty much everywhere we go.”
The MB Duncan Motor Sports team is proud to include the name Bill Sedgwick in all of its media material. Bill is a multiple series champion in the west, and as the team’s Crew Chief, his name, success and experience is the backbone of the team. This iconic figure in the west helps cement the MB Duncan Motor Sports team in the history books. The team would also like to thank all of the sponsors, friends, family members, track officials, series officials, series employees and fans for their consistent, loyal support.
This may be the last race under one sponsor’s name, but it’s also the beginning of a new era for Mike Duncan.
