HARVICK COMING TO OCTOBER CLASSIC

Bakersfield, CA -- NASCAR Busch Series Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year leader Kevin Harvick will return to Mesa Marin Raceway for this weekend’s $225,000 October Classic. Harvick a Bakersfield native, won the Mesa Marin Raceway Late Model Stock Cars title at age 17, now competes on the NASCAR Busch Series driving for team owner Richard Childress, where he has two wins and is currently 4th in points.

""I haven't raced there (Mesa Marin) all year and I don't think there's a year I haven't raced at Mesa Marin since I was 16," Harvick said. "So I called Larry (Collins) and and asked what we needed to do so I could race there. The Collins have supported me since I was 16, they're a big part to my career and I feel I owe them something."

Collins found a car for Harvick, one owned by Jerry Cain, so the deal was done.

"My dad (Mike) will set up the car, Terry Henry will serve as crew chief and a lot of the guys who helped me when I was running Late Models and the Southwest Tour are coming back to be part of the crew. We're going to run the race and have some fun."

"I want to be at the October Classic, we run Rockingham the day before but I’ll be there for Sunday’s race, I can’t wait." stated Harvick.

Harvick is scheduled drive a Cain motorsports Monte Carlo in the NASCAR Winston West Series "Spears Manufacturing 250" on Sunday, October 22 at Mesa. He may also pilot a Small Motorsports Port City Late Model in Sunday’s Golden West Trailer Sales "Race of Champions".

The October Classic starts off on Friday, with the NASCAR Late Model Stock Car "Big ‘O’ Tires 200", the Ultra Wheels SPEC Truck Series 100 and the "Mechanix Wear - MAC Tools Pit Stop Series" final. Saturday night the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series will headline the action with the "Terry Lumber/Foods Co 200", the California Asphalt Super Modifieds will also compete Saturday night. Then on Sunday it’s the NASCAR Winston West Series "Spears 250" and the Golden West Trailer Sales "Race of Champions Invitational".
