Racing can happen anywhere, good racing is a team effort.

The following folks were selected as true team players and as candidates by the RacingWest users for the honor of the 2007 RW Person of the Year.

All comments are used with permission. Now before you start itching to point out that one and one should add up to two and that it seems like there are more votes than comments...that is true...we are receiving many more votes with no comments than votes that include comments.

Originally comments were in alphabetical order, later it changed to new additions simply added to the top.

Joe is a person that deserves to be on this list. He doess a lot a charity that goes unnoticed. Plus, he is a great guy that helps a lot of people out.

  • Joe Doellefeld and Mike Minegar - Chosen by Adam Nelson
I would like to give each of these guys apart of my vote! I'm assuming that 1/2 points are talliable! Joe is a class act when it comes to his facility and his events, the people that compete at his track alway have positive things to say about him. I love that he is not afraid to share his ideas with others in an effort to better racing at other racing facilities striving to build what he has built. As for Minegar, the guy has been on a mission to provide a great stage for aspiring Latemodels drivers and teams in an area that is unfortunatly sometimes forgotten as part of the NW. Since 2003 his goals have been to help latemodels put on a show that warrants a better return from the tracks that they compete at. He has balanced this with keeping his product affordable to the tracks that book his races. He gets 1/2 my vote because of the sponsor ties he has built, the team of officials that follow the tour, the class racers that enter each event and of course we can't forget the magical 20car invert! Merry Christmas all.

  • Greg Scheidecker and Denny Rudin - Chosen by Anonymous
This was a tough one for me both Greg Scheidecker of Lucas Oil and Denny Rudin of Havasu helped give me my start in racing 25 years ago. Both have resurrected tracks not known for racing and made them a success, very rare these days as more racetracks become subdivisions or mall parking lots! Thanks guys I really wanna say that... you're both great people.
  • The Destefani & Collins Families - Chosen by Vance Palm
These two families have joined forces to bring the west a new racing venue that all of these other nominees will be able to enjoy for years to come. This new track in Kern County will be the standard bearer for all 1/2 mile tracks in the region, and these families have invested immeasurably to ensure that we all have a place to make life-lasting memories with familiy and friends.

  • Bill McAnally - Chosen by Amanda Klingenberg
He is constantly putting cars in the field to keep the West Series going.  He also does promotional work at different tracks for the GNW series.

  • Steve Fensler - Chosen by Dave Reed
Steve Fensler for keeping late model  touring alive and growing!!

  • Mike Minegar - Chosen by Bobby Latham

He puts his whole heart and soul into his raceway.

  • Jason Patison - Anonymous: Success in the Lucas Oil Series

  • Dennis Huth - Chosen by Mike White
He will always make the time to talk to you.

  • Dennis Huth - Chosen by Matt and Lisa Schmidt
During Winter Heat one year we ran out of gas leaving the track. We were waving at the cars trying to get them to stop. Finally a car pulled up with 2 men and took us to a gas station but said they said they couldn’t take us back because they were late. The one guy asked if we had money to get a cab back to the car. We didn’t.  He gave us $50 and his business card and told us to call a cab. Damn I still remember how I felt getting that money and I still have that card. So for this reason I pick Dennis Huth. You guessed it, that was the name on the card. It was unbelievable NASCAR gave us a ride. One of the reasons I will always be a fan of NASCAR is because I know it is full of good people. NASCAR really is family.

  • Havasu 96 Speedway - Chosen by Anonymous
Havasu All the way for these guys. Made a great race track with plenty of action.

  • Joe Nava - Chosen by Kathleen Ivey
Joe is a person that deserves to be on this list. He does a lot a charity that goes unnoticed. Plus, he is a great guy that helps a lot of people out.

  • Dennis Huth - Chosen by Anonymous
He keeps his word. Not easy to find a person like that in today’s world.

  • George Wade - Chosen by Mike Jones
George was running 2 tracks last year and deserves to be part of this list. He is devoted to racing and what is best for racing

  • Dennis Huth - Chosen by Stephen Reese
I couldn’t stand him for years. Gibb Repass. There was another one. Both were a major pain in the ass. But then I was reading how NASCAR was better with Dennis. You know the places we raced and stuff. With him out of NASCAR the tours are gone and the grand national is a joke.Affordable? Yeah. Right. At least Dennis picked up the pieces of the tour and is turning it back around.

  • Mike Minegar - Chosen by Anonymous
Mike has positioned himself as a real leader in the Late Model Community. He has great vision for what it takes to creat a succesful tour for the drivers, fans and promoters.

  • Dennis Rudin - Chosen by Richard Bullen
In all my years of Marketing and Advertiseing...sometimes you run into people who "get it!" when it comes to that sort of stuff. Dennis is a member of the "Get it club!" He has made a big difference in a short period of time.

  • Kevin Green - Chosen by Bill McAnally
As far as the RW Person of the Year, I would like to suggest Kevin Green. Any time I have a need for demographics, media contacts, NASCAR question, etc. he will get right back or gets me going in the right direction. He is always available and willing to help.

  • Steve Fensler - Chosen by Anonymous
There are many people that are probably deserving of this award, but my vote is for Steve Fensler. He not only kept the Tour Cars alive for the last six years, he did it when the odds were against it happening, when some spread false rumors to insure that it failed, he did it when certain tracks tried to ban the SRL from competing there, only later to learn that it was a viable series and did make them money, he kept on fighting and did not let any of these misguided people stop him. He did all this because he loves the sport and for the special drivers that stood behind him and believed in his dream and wanted it to continue. He didn’t let anyone or anything stop him and for that and the fact that he is honest hard working man I vote for Steve Fensler.

  • Dennis & Bill, Havasu 95 Speedway - Chosen by Amber Sutton
They work SO hard to make sure that the track is the best that it can be. They are bringing better things each season and more to come. We are extremly happy with the way that we are treated as fans, racers, and volunteers. Thank you!!

  • Les Scott "California Hot Wood" - Chosen by Anonymous
He has always been a gentleman and helped save out racing season and supports local racers

  • Bill and Dennis at Havasu Speedway - Chosen by Anonymous
Man, look what they have done to that track. They deserve the top spot over lots of people. The place is clean, great racing and fun to go to. They get my vote hands down.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Brian Boman
Joe is a first class guy and a damn good promoter. Joe takes care of his racers. He can be seen passing out FREE bottles of water from pit to pit in the summer when its Hot. This is the promoter walking the pits handing out water.I just think thats a awesome gesture!

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Dan & Annette Garber
Joe is a first class guy and a damn good promoter. Joe takes care of his racers. He can be seen passing out FREE bottles of water from pit to pit in the summer when its Hot. This is the promoter walking the pits handing out water.I just think thats a awesome gesture!

  • Ron Hornaday Jr. - Chosen by Bob Bradshaw
He is still at the top of his game!

  • Havasu Speedway - Dennis and Bill - Chosen by Brian Freeman
I believe that anyone who has attended a race at Havasu Speedway would have to vote for them. That place rocks!

  • Les Scott (California Hot Wood) - Chosen by Anonymous
For stepping up and giving all the Tour cars a place to race and an all around great guy for the sport. We need more people like Les in local motorsports. Thanks Les!

  • Dennis Rudin - Chosen by Anonymous
Dennis has helped ressurect the racetrack in Lake Havasu which in turn has helped boost the local economy and gotten all those race cars out of the garages and onto the racetrack!!

  • Stoney Gray - Chosen by Chris Clyne
For backing the kids' series with trophy / iPods and free trips for moms and dads at the end of the year... and fielding a Super Late/ Modified / and Thunder Roadsters for drivers coming up ..

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Tom Rice
When Joe took over the track from Boness it was just starting to get cleaned up, He has not just taken the money that the track makes but has put it back into the grounds to make it a first class place to race. He supports his community that he lives in and is willing to help his fellow racer if he can.

  • Garrett Evans - Chosen by Wayne Jones
Garrett lost his long time crew chief. Did a lot of the work on the car himself this year. Plus run his car business and WVSO. Had his best year in several years racing.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Bryan Bykerk
I have raced at Stateline Speedway several times and always feel Joe truly cares about the racers and always treats us great.

  • Andy Daddario - Chosen by Darrell & Shelley LaMoure
For putting forth the effort having passion and taking a position impacting the short track racing scene A true grass roots racing enthusiast.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Chris Johnson
I have been racing at Stateline since 1989 and have seen what Joe has done this year. He helped bring back the NW Tour to Stateline and is just an all around good guy.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Anonymous
One of the last great promoter who cares about the fans and the racers his word is golden

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Anonymous
He is the one man that can bring some sense to the table as far as getting late model racing series in the northwest back on track

  • Bob and Kathy Butcher - Chosen by Dave Balkwill
Bob really cares about his racers..he fills an important need in the lives of all of them.. a real man of God.

  • Joe Dollefeld - Chosen by Anonymous
For his posts on the message boards, especially the one in the "Look here all the racers in the NW" thread on the NW section. Joe has frequently spoken his mind publicly, which is rare. All the sanitized BS we get from promoters, sponsors, press agents and drivers is boring and unhelpful. Joe gives us more real information, passion and humanity in one post than we get in 1,000 NASCAR or ASA press releases.

  • Andy Daddario - Chosen by Michael Richard Mulder
This guy is what Racingwest is all about. He is a grassroots guy that is always looking to better our sport. If you didn't sign the petition to save Madera, shame on you. If you didn't sign the petition to save Madera, it certainly wasn't Andys fault. His candid interviews from our sports "regular" guys gives us all a view we would have never been exposed to without him taking the lead, all with the concept of trying to figure out how to make it better for everyone involved in putting on "the show" from the Street Stock racer all the way up to the promoters. His passion for the sport is truly unmatched. His dedication for West coast racing stands out even above that of the rest of us who really love the sport.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Anonymous
Anybody that has raced for very long quickly learns to appreciate Joe's facility and hospitality.

  • Ron Bennett - Chosen by Anonymous
He has kept the tour alive and kept racing in Central Washington

  • Dennis Huth - Chosen by David Anderson
How can one not think of Dennis Huth when they think of the most important player of 2007? Not only in the Western arena, but nationwide. How many tracks and series does this man back? But the most important thing of all is when NASCAR turned the lights off on the NASCAR Tours; he successfully restored two of them. He took the Midwest Tour to a higher level than it enjoyed under the sanctioning of NASCAR and when the people behind the Northwest Tour were faltering between having a Northwest Tour and not having one, he stepped up to the plate and sanctioned it. He is perhaps the single most powerful man in grassroots racing today.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Anonymous
Joe has proven that racing is more important than money and does everything he can to help promote racing in the NW

  • Butch Behn- Chosen by Mike Easley
Not many people know Butch as well as I have got to know him over the years, when I was burned in my late model 7 years ago Butch did a lot of things for my family while I couldnt work. And he promised me I'd always have a place to race. He has kept his promise and thats Big in my book.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Anonymous
Joe cares and knows how to run a business. Pigs get fat, Hogs get slottered, I'll just be a pig. Meaning Take a little at a time and be there for the duration. Give and you will get back naturally. He knows how to treat people with respect. And always makes everyone feel like they are a welcomed and valuable asset to his shows. He is a geniune person, and that comes through.

  • Eddy McKean - Chosen by Beverly Meyers
Of course I would say Eddy McKean and the reason being he has taken on the task of buying and running Magic Valley Speedway and trying new things to help the racing scene out and he is also improving the facilities all in one year and it turned out to be a great year and he is not afraid of change to make things work smooth and go better for not only the racers but the fans also. He also is planning on a lot of new improvements for next year plus new ideas to draw the fans in.

  • Becky McBride - Chosen by Rex Murray
Becky is very much a "selfless person". She is always giving of herself to help everyone that she can. She has been doing this for 30 years.

  • Ron Bennett - Chosen by Anonymous
He kept the NW Tour Alive.

  • Kevin Green - Chosen by Burry Dolbeare
He's darn good at what he does, and has been doing it for quite a while

  • The Destefani and Collins families - Chosen by Troy Blanton
Who ever the person(s) is that is building the new Bakersfield track. With all the news of tracks closing it is nice to hear of a new one being built...With the way todays drivers whine about everything it also takes alot of love for the sport to build something of this magnitude knowing there is always going to be an up hill battle trying to make everyone at least somewhat happy

  • Marion and Larry "The Collins" - Chosen by Bob Coply
Marion taught me almost everything I know about putting a program together and Larry showed me how to work with the younger promoter. I feel that Bill D. and the Collins could have taken the money they have and enjoyed retirerment but instead they are building yet another super place to race.

  • Ron Zajicek - Chosen by Anonymous
He is the most giving person I've ever met, very seldom complains about anything, has a great outlook in general, and is always fun to be around.

  • Steve Fensler - Chosen by Anonymous
Against all odds, keeping Tour type racing alive in California.

  • The Destefani and Collins families - Chosen by Anonymous
For working hard to create a state-of-the-art racing facility with the construction of Kern County's New Home to NASCAR. These families should be commended for stepping forward to deliver a beautiful new speedway following the closure of some historic short tracks.

  • Les Scott - Chosen by Anonymous
For Sponsoring the SRL and giving them a race season last year

  • Les Scott from Hotwood- Chosen by Anonymous
Sponsoring WLW and SRL racing as well as funding teams as well

  • Del Dalrymple - Chosen by Anonymous
I knew Del since 98 or 99, and since his passing I've learned more about him then I did in all those years. His story can be made into a movie. Mentoring Candice (Muzny), building a team from nothing . He had a G.N (NASCAR Grand National) West car , a Superlate , a Late Model, the shop and only ten years ago he was sleeping in a dirt lot. Alot of racers can tell his story but only backwards, about going broke racing.

  • Andy Daddario - Chosen by Randy Kerr
Without a doubt I would have to vote for Andy Daddario. All the people listed so far are great people and well deserving I'm sure but, they all get paid for what they do. Andy does what he does because he loves racing, spending what has to be thousands of dollars out of his own pocket to try to make a difference for the racers, fans, sponsors and even for the promoters. I doubt many people know the hours of dedication he spends. Last week he could be found at the promoters work shops, not looking for a track to buy or run but to try to learn what promoters face in this changing era of short track racing. I know Stewart was kind enough to comp a pass for Andy but the expense to get to Reno and hotel etc. were all on Andy and I've never heard him complain about what he is spending. He is on a mission to help all of us with only the satisfaction of seeing great short track racing across the west. Thank you ANDY!!

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Tony Berry
J I've raced for 15 years at many different levels and types of venues. Joe runs the cleanest, most fan and driver friendly program I've ever been to. The food is good, the bathrooms are clean, the grass is green and oh yeah, the racing is awesome too. Joe is the type of person racing needs the most. He walks that fine line between doing what is popular for his customers and what is right for his business.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Anonymous
Believes in the true spirit of racing.Tries to be fair to everyone at his facility. Helps racers through some tough times.

  • Joe Doellefeld - Chosen by Joe Ploegman
Joes, help to any and all racers. There was a driver in Yakima who was sick and looking for a sponsor for tires so that another driver could race his car. With Joe not knowing this driver as i recall he raced in yakima donated the money. This example (and there are many others) demonstrates why Joe shold be the Racingwest person of the year.

  • Kevin Green - Chosen by Anonymous
This person came to my mind immediately. He does so much for racers and racing in the West, much more than most realize. Without his help, my job would be so much harder. He promotes not only drivers and teams but also the race venues and events. He gives me great materials to help me open doors in the many media outlets around the country. If ever I need a fact to put in a release, Kevin will give it to me. I could go on and on. Drivers, team owners and promoters get a lot of pats on the back throughout the season but without Kevin, most people wouldn't have a clue that they exist from the West.

  • Kevin Green - Chosen by Lee Elder
Kevin Green's body of work for the West Series in particular and for NASCAR in general is pretty amazing, both in quality and in quantity, every year. Check me on this, but I believe that when Kevin started in 1995, NASCAR had 11 series and 11 media coordinators. Kevin is the only one of the 11 who is still there.

  • Eric Hardin - Chosen by Donie Butts
Eric Hardin, Hands Down, Brought a New Sponsor to NASCAR and Raised More Money then Ever for the Childrens Hospitals

  • Eric Hardin - Chosen by Cliff Cherry
Wow tough one - I'm going to say Eric Hardin, for continuing to show progress on the track and showing that a disability doesn't have to keep you from pursuing your dreams.

  • Havasu 95 Staff - Chosen by Anonymous
These guys are great. Who doesn't like them?

  • Hope - Chosen by Cliff Cherry
Honorable guide dog mention to Hope, our black lab, who admittedly has little to do with RW but is Leanne's faithful companion, so that has to count for something, right?

  • Ron Hornaday Junior - Chosen by Anonymous
Becase he is the man. Its good to see one of the guys we root for do good.

  • Jeff Macey - Chosen by Steven Blakesley
Jeff tirelessly worked at Altamont and with Westcar to promote both. But more importantly, he used motorsports as an avenue to promote many worthy chartiable causes, including the auctioning off of motorcycles, allowing charities to raise money through fund raisers at the races, and his overwhelming contributions towards teen driver safety. His ability to use motorsports for such worthy causes was an inspiration to me.

  • Jim Naylor - Chosen by Lee Elder
Jim Naylor was recently named USAC's regional promoter of the year for this season. He was the national promoter of the year about 10-12 years ago. He has promoted the Raceway for 30 years and made it work despite a very difficult situation. The reason he's been able to make it work is that he loves it. Naylor grades the track himself, runs the water truck, announces, throws t-shirts into the crowd all night, runs the program and interviews the winners at the end of the night.

  • Mike Minegar - Chosen by Derrick Shannon
He has continued to manage one of the most successful Late Model Series in the country. Great car counts, a 20-car invert, and open to all Late Model type cars. One you see one of the races, you will understand why it is the best around.

  • Mike Minegar - Chosen by Anonymous
He has built the best latemodel racing series that ID or UT has ever seen. 23 car count average, and a 20 car invert every race. way to go.

  • Peyton Sellers- Chosen by Anonymous
His season shows that with the right people you don't need the big money to be on top. p.s. I've been out east for the racing season

  • Greg Scheidecker - Chosen by Anonymous
Saved the modified series (Lucas Oil ASA Modified Series), best touring series.
