SMRA AND MERIDIAN SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCE DATE FOR 2008 TATER CUPThe Supermodified Racing Association (SMRA), in concert with Meridian Speedway, announced a major event for September 6, 2008. The SMRA sanctioned Supermodifieds will be the premier division for the Annual Tater Cup at Meridian Speedway. The radically offset roadsters of the SMRA will compete in a complete racing program including time trials, heat races, and a fifty lap feature event. The winner will receive a special perpetual trophy which will move from winner to winner throughout the years.

The Supermodified Racing Association is running its inaugural season in 2008. There are now eleven races on the SMRA schedule with possibly two additional dates still in negotiation. The Tater Cup will be the second Idaho date for the Supermodifieds in 2008. Mr. Brad Belveal, Executive Director of the SMRA stated that the racers and the Meridan Promoter, Mr. John Wood, are all very enthusiastic about bringing the Supermods back to Meridian Speedway and hope this event will become a major annual program on the Supermodified Racing Association Schedule.

Idaho drivers expected to compete in the Tater Cup SMRA event include veteran Jeff Russell with multiple Supermodified wins, Pat Whittet, veteran sprint car pilot who moved into Supermods in 2005, and sophomore Super driver Brian Warf who had a phenomenal rookie season in 2007.

Other racers expected to compete include multiple time champion Troy Regier of California, former Meridian feature winner Mike McCann of Oregon, California’s Martin McKeefery, 2007 Supermod Champ, perennial challenger and multi-time winner Jim Birges of California. The 2007 East - West Supermodified Shootout Champion A.J. Russell of California, former winner Dale Lamborn of Nevada, and veteran NSRA competitor Craig Deaver of Washington are all expected to participate. In addition, there will as many as 20 additional entries from California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and possibly Texas.

So mark the date on your calendar. September 6 will be the biggest Supermodified event to hit Idaho in many years. You may find additional information at the Meridian Speedway website, www.meridianspeedway.com, or at the SMRA website, www.smraracing.com.####
