BROWNSBURG, Indiana -- The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series had last weekend off and this upcoming weekend off before returning to action at the ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway March 13-16, but the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series visited the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the UAW-Dodge 400.
For the third week in a row, Ryan Newman led the Penske Racing trio to the finish line. Newman fought an ill-handling car throughout the 267-lap race and was pleased with the 15th-place finish his No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger was able to muster. After the first three races of the season, including his Daytona 500 win, Newman sits third in Sprint Cup Series points.
Hometown boy Kurt Busch brought out the caution flag on lap 255 when his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge suffered a blown right front tire and smacked the outside walls between turn three and turn four, resulting in a 38th-place finish.
Sam Hornish Jr.’s day came to a halt earlier than Busch’s, when he suffered a blown right front tire and hit the outside wall of turn two. His incident occurred on lap 50 and his team was able to make enough repairs to return his No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge, 100 laps later, scoring him 41st.
The Penske Racing teams tested at Phoenix International Raceway today and will continue to do so tomorrow before heading down south to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Kobalt Tools 500 on Sunday.
