RINGERS RACING ROUND-UP

BROWNSBURG, Indiana – NASCAR’s upper echelon series’ visited Atlanta Motor Speedway just south of Atlanta over the weekend for their respective races.

In Atlanta on Friday night and for the second race in a row, Kyle Busch drove the Billy Ballew Motorsports’ No. 51 to a victory in the American Commercial Lines 200 in the Craftsman Truck Series. This was also the fifth consecutive race Busch finished either with a win on in second place. His teammate Marc Mitchell piloted the No. 15 to a 23rd place finish.

After qualifying in the 24th position, Ringers’ supporter Brendan Gaughan piloted the No. 10 International Maxx Force Diesel to the finish line in 15th place, one lap down.

Other Ringers’ supporting teams in the field included the Green Light Racing team with Jason White, driving the No. 08 GunBroker.com to a 25th-place finish, Shane Sieg finishing 31st with an expired engine and Butch Miller, piloting a third entry for the team, finishing last with an overheating problem.

On Sunday, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series took to the 1.5 mile quad-oval for the Kobalt Tools 500.

Although he went a lap down early only 30 laps into the race, Kurt Busch stuck with his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge hot rod through the remainder of the 325-lap race and was able to muster an 11th-place finish, leading the Penske Racing trio to the finish line.

Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman looked to be headed to a top-five finish, but with about 100 laps remaining in the race, Juan Pablo-Montoya slingshot up the track and clipped Newman’s left-side fender. Newman did a great job of keeping his No. 12 Alltel Dodge off the wall, but had to fit under green-flag conditions to repair the tire rub caused by the incident. He rallied back for a 14th-place finish.

Penske Racing’s newest Cup driver Sam Hornish Jr., finished the race in his No. 77 Penske Truck Rental Dodge in the 25th position, after starting 33rd. Hornish came to the checkered flag two laps down.

All three series travel to the Thunder Valley and the Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend for their respective events.

In other racing news, Ringers’ supporter Cordell Nichols received an invitation to participate in a full season of competition in a newly-formed go-kart series, the North Carolina Unlimited All-Stars (NCUAS). In their season-opener last weekend, Cordell finished in second place.

The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series returns to action this weekend at the ACDelco Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway (Fla.). Stay tuned to ringersgloves.com for a full report of the weekend’s activities.
