What a great question to be asked! Ukiah Speedway has many plans and improvements in the works for the 2008 race season. Fast paced action from the Modifieds madness to the roaring thunder of the North State Challenge Series, along with the zippy Legends of the Pacific, the 11 second BCRA Midgets, and best of all the bashing and bumping Bombers. We encourage all the youngsters to come check out their friends and classmates in the fast evolving division of the Bandolero’s. Coming back for a second year will be the fast and unrestricted Bonus Bombers. The Speedway welcome’s Westcar, the Thunder Roadsters, Pro 4 Modifieds, Monster Trucks, Mudd Boggs, and two Enduros to add to the action. For you old timers on the schedule are the Vintage Midgets and Nostalgic Cars.
Due to the loss of the King of the Hill Challenge Series between Ukiah and Lakeport Speedway, Ukiah Speedway has elected to continue its part in hopes the series will return in the future and have a “Bomber King of the Hill Challenge Series”. The schedule includes a 7 race miniseries from April 5th thru September 13th. These 7 races will be open to all bombers. We will have additional staffing and tech on hand to keep the cars inline and working together. There are a few added bonuses to these races, along with getting in free (driver and passenger) as long as you are a member of NSRA or NCRA all participants will be paid. All drivers are encouraged to check out the payout on the auto’s page of the website www.ukiahspeedway.com. The drivers will be racing for the bragging rights of the “Bomber King of the Hill Challenge Series” perpetual trophy. This 6 foot tall trophy will be the champions to show off for one year. It will be replaced with a plaque at the end of the following year so the next Champion’s name can be added and it can be passed along.
New for 2008 the bombers will be running on a 7” Goodyear tire, the same tire Lakeport, Shasta, and Eureka are currently using. We are trying to bring all cars together under one common set of rules. Bombers will still be on the designated restrictor plate. Another bonus for the bombers will be getting a payout on a regular basis. As long as you are a member and raced the previous race driver and passenger will get in at no charge and will receive a payback to help offset the rising cost of fuel. Please remember to get your memberships in by the first race.
Modified madness. Ukiah Speedway has elected to remove the restrictor plate and go back to hard core racing. Two barrel, four barrel, open comp or crate motor, if you have it come and race it. Modifieds will be the feature in our Tri-Holiday Extravaganza, starting with Memorial Day weekend and $1000 to win, followed by 4th & 5th of July Firecracker 100 featuring twin 50 laps mains $1000 to win and fireworks to follow, the Finale will be Labor Day weekend crowning the Tri-Holiday Champion and $1000 to win the main event. As a thank you we have increased the purse. Every Modified is guaranteed $150 to start the main event.
Continuing for 2008 will be the lucky wrist band number give away. You must be a member and you must be at the pre-race pit meeting. Randy Larsen with Larsen Race Products has been invited to service the race track. He will have many parts for sale at the race track along with the fuel, tires and restrictor plates. Also the tire machine will be available at no charge for your at track mounting needs.
Added to the action will be 2 Enduro’s. Ukiah Speedway has been added to the 2008 West Coast Enduro’s schedule. Please check out our website for further rules and details. We will be working with the group for entry forms, payouts, and tech inspections.
We have expanded our timing and scoring system to include transponders beginning last season. Bombers will still receive their transponder at no charge for all the “Bomber King of the Hill Challenge Series” races and at no charge if they are a member and raced the previous race. All other divisions will be charged $10 for members and $20 for non-members. Any race track membership will be honored for this also. The track has the transponders for sale at a discounted price.
ANY race track membership will be honored at the pit gate this year as the Ukiah Speedway member’s price. It doesn’t matter what track or race association you belong to, just show your current 2008 membership card and your pit pass will be at the member’s discounted price.
Ukiah Speedway welcomes all race fans to come check out your favorite driver as they test and tune their cars on Sunday March 30th from 11am-4pm. Grandstands will be open to the public free of charge.
