WILTON, California – The FLASHCO SRL Southwest Tour Series will open its eighth season this Friday and Saturday night at Roseville’s All-American Speedway. The SRL will share the spotlight this weekend with the NASCAR Camping World Series West. “This is a great way to start our 2008 series,” stated Steve Fensler, executive director of the SRL.
“This is the first time we have ever competed with the West series, and will be the series first visit to All-American Speedway, so we are very excited about our opener.” Fensler added.
Three of the tour’s more experienced veterans are eager to start the 2008 season and compete in front of what is sure to be a capacity crowd this weekend at Roseville.
2007 SRL champion Dave Byrd driving the Bob Strandwold owned Chevy is set to take aim at a second consecutive championship. “We are really excited about 2008. Last year our team really got to know each other and developed great chemistry down the stretch,” said Byrd. “The last time I raced at Roseville was back in 1982. We are looking forward to testing out the new configuration,” continued Byrd. SRL veteran M.K. Kanke last raced at Roseville in his Southwest Tour car in the late 80’s. Kanke, the winningest driver in Southwest Tour history, is looking forward to the first race of what is going to be an exciting 2008. “I am looking forward to racing a full season with the SRL this year,” said Kanke. “I can’t wait to get the RPM Motorsports 33 Chevy back on the track with great SRL drivers like Byrd and Pettit!” Rick Ruzbarsky has his own set of Roseville memories. Ruzbarsky used to run a Legends car there in the track’s old configuration. “The track has a wide backstretch making it great for completing a pass,” said Ruzbarsky. “2008 is looking really exciting for the SRL! I hope to be more patient this year and take what the car will give me, racing for wins while working on consistency”
“We are thrilled to have these and many of our other SRL veterans back this year,” added Fensler, “We also have many new teams joining the tour for 2008 which promises to be the best year ever for the SRL!” About the FLASHCO SRL Southwest Tour Series: Celebrating its eighth season in 2008, the FLASHCO SRL Southwest Tour Series is a regional stock car series competing on paved ovals in the southwestern portion of the U.S. The series utilizes cars based on the former NASCAR Elite Division Series rulebook.
