ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE SERIES TO HIGHLIGHT A FULL EVENING AT TOYOTA SPEEDWAY AT IRWINDALESource: Dave Grayson
In two races so far in 2008 the ASA-STC has produced two first time winners from highly competitive events that concluded with a green-white-checker finish. Second year driver Jason Black won the March 8th season opener at the Havasu 95 Speedway and fended off a final lap challenge from Dallas Colodny. March 22nd saw the series racing at Tucson Raceway Park where 15 year old Texas native Chris Buescher climbed inside of a speed truck for the first time ever and then stunned everyone by setting the fast time in qualifying, winning the trophy dash and then completed the hat trick by taking the 100 lap feature during the final fifty feet of the final lap.
That same level of competition is expected from the ASA-STC this Saturday at the Toyota Speedway. The majority of the teams love racing there because of the extremely fast speeds they hit at this track plus the fact the multi grooves there allows them plenty of side by side racing room.
Also providing some exciting truck racing this Saturday night at the Toyota Speedway will be the West Coast Pro Truck Series who will be making their second of six appearances on the Irwindale half mile this year. That first race, back on March 29th, featured 14 trucks running a 30 lap feature. That race was dominated by Murietta-California's Ricky James who crossed under the checkers with a 4.3 second winning margin over the truck driven by Ronnie Davis.
One of the mainstays of the Toyota Speedway's weekly program is the AC Delco Super Late Model division who is expected to again provide the fans with some lightning fast racing. The Super Late season debut, on March 22nd, was a 50 lap feature won by Redlands-California's Charles Price in a car very familiar to the fans. It was the same car that Rip Michaels used to win the season championship last year. The car was purchased by veteran driver, turned full time team owner, Dave Eshleman who proved that he made a wise decision by putting Price in the driver's seat. Price won the season debut by a slim margin of .05 seconds over Rancho Cucamonga's Scott Conaway in a race that had 27 cars in the field.
There will also be plenty of action Saturday night on the speedway's one third mile paved oval which is integrated inside of the half mile track. The Legend Cars will be running a 25 lap feature. During the series' debut, on March 22nd, 18 year old Indiana native Jimmy Hansen led the 29 car field under the checkers with a slim winner's margin of ,03 seconds over runner up Tom Landreth.
Also seeing some track time on the one third mile oval will be the speedway's Bandolero division. These small, but very quick, race cars are often campaigned by youngsters and, who knows, you may be seeing the next great auto racing star in action at a very young age.
Fans will be delighted to hear that the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale presenting Recession Buster Night this Saturday which means the fans will be able to purchase two tickets for the price of one. The spectator gates will open at 4 pm with the racing action getting underway at 7 pm.
