CONCORD, North Carolina -- Craig Dollansky and Jason Meyers have been neck in neck all season and that remained the same at I-55 Raceway on Saturday night, as Meyers edged Dollansky by just 0.145 seconds for the win. The pair was separated by two points entering the event and now are just one marker apart.
Dollansky was second quickest in time trials, to earn four bonus points, which not only have kept him in the lead in the championship standings, but also have helped him pad his lead in the Qwik Liner Cup points, which awards points to the Top-Five drivers in time trials at each of the first 13 events this season.
Along with Dollansky, Meyers is the only driver that has finished in the Top-Five in all five events this season. The native of Clovis, California also leads the series with three A-Feature wins, including two consecutive.
Donny Schatz, the two-time defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion used his fifth Top-10 finish of the season on Saturday night to remain third in points, just 37 markers out of the lead.
Joey Saldana used a third-place finish at I-55 Raceway to remain fourth in the standings, with Terry McCarl in fifth.
Chad Kemenah, the 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner, used his third Top-10 of 2008 to move up to the sixth position in points, with Kerry Madsen in seventh.
Jac Haudenschild earned a Top-Five finish at I-55 Raceway to move into the eighth position, with 20-time series champion Steve Kinser tied with him.
Tim Shaffer moved into the Top-10 in points after picking up his first Top-Five of the season on Saturday night.
Also moving up in the standings was Daryn Pittman who finished seventh at I-55 Raceway and now is just 11 points out of the Top-10.
Danny Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws champion, used his second Top-10 of the season to move up a couple of spots to 12th in the championship standings.
Shane Stewart on the strength of his second consecutive Top-10 finish moved up a spot to 15th in points.
Justin Henderson moved up two spots to 18th in the points, with Tony Bruce Jr. moving up to 19th and Chad Hillier moving into the 20th position.
The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series returns to action on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 at Eldora Speedway in Ohio.![]()
