UPLAND, California -- The offices of ASA Speed Truck Challenge were notified a few days ago today that the made-for-television movie “Finish Line” starring Scott Baio (Happy Days, Charles in Charge, Scott Baio is 45 and Single), Sam Page (Wolf series with Sam Woods), Dan Lauria (father on Wonder Years) and other well known actors will broadcast nationally on April 21st, 2008 on SPIKE TV. This action-packed racing drama features Page as an up and coming driver that wants to make it to the “big show,” depicted as the ASA Speed Truck Challenge. Filmed in only 24 days across the Southern California area, Finish Line utilized the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, CA over a four day period with Jay Rutherford, president of the series and his staff present for technical advice. Utilizing several of the Speed Trucks in the dramatic climax of the movie, (United Racing Chevrolet’s and Victor Pfluger’s Dodge), and many hours of set-ups and footage being shot in and out of the trucks; the ASA Speed Truck Challenge series will be highlighted in a huge way in this national broadcast.
“It certainly was not a request that I get every day,” commented Rutherford, “but we were glad to oblige the production company in return for getting some excellent exposure for the series once it debuts. We wish the actors the best as they really worked hard to give the ASA Speed Truck Challenge a good image.” The script called for a horrific crash scene finish that only Hollywood could create and it made for quite a spectacular ending to a few long hot days on the track for the cast and crew. Sources have said that the movie has already gotten good reviews and will be well received on an action channel like SPIKE. Check your local listing for exact show time on the evening of April 21st.
ASA’s byline in racing is “We Build Champions” and as ASA’s premier racing series in the U.S., the ASA Speed Truck Challenge continues that great tradition. Among ASA graduates are Rusty Wallace, Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt and Alan Kulwicki to name a few. Rutherford’s Speed Truck Challenge is grooming several champions of his own for driving excellence as well with at least three Development Drivers for NASCAR Cup teams in the ranks. “With our style of driving and experience that we give every driver in this unique traveling series, there will most definitely be a few that will make it to the big show,” said Rutherford.
