The air temperature was hot, the track temperature was hot and the racing action was on fire! After Hornets started off the main events of the evening, the Speedway Chevrolet Super Stocks gridded up for their forty lap main. After a first lap mishap that unfortunately took Kelly Mann and pole sitter Daniel Moore out of the race, the green flag flew and Tom Hughes took control of the race. Hughes raced out to a nice lead but finally John Zaretzke was able to catch him. After a side-by-side battle that featured Hughes hanging tough with Zaretzke on the outside groove, Zaretzke was able to wrestle away the lead. His lead lasted but a few brief seconds as Naima Lang made a spectacular move that took him from third to first in a blink. Lang drove away to the win, his fourth so far this season. Zaretzke finished second with Mike Holden once again showing steady consistency finishing third. Jeff Holden and Tom Hughes rounded out the top five.
Les Schwab Tires Bombers ran a short track spectacular with Travis Blackwood hanging on to win for the first time this season with last weeks winner and current points leader Jim Foti hot on his rear bumper. Defending champion Lane Sundholm finished third with Casey Branch and Joe Kneeland completing the top five.
The 60 minutes of FEAR was once again a barnburner. Topping the evening off with constant intersection and lead changes throughout. In the final laps you had to be either a Gunderson or the Leader John Carlson! All three Gunderson's, Nick, Ryan and Brian finished second through fourth respectively. But the evening belonged to "The Cowboy" Carlson. After an early lap tangle put second fast qualifier and defending 60 Minutes Champion, Ricky "The Kid" Deitz out of the event, Carlson was left to race with the Gunderson gang. Nick and Carlson exchanged the lead a few times as the intersection came into play. In the end Carlson climbed the fence and claimed the victory becoming only the third driver ever to win more than one 60 Minutes title. He won his first in 2006.![]()
