SAN BERNARDINO, Calfiornia – In a race plagued with yellow flags, Colton native Linny White earned his second victory of the 2008 season in the BSR West Super Late Models. White had been running fourth when Barry Karr and Rick Chavez made contact, resulting in a flat front right tire for Karr. Sixteen laps into the race Chavez and ’07 Super Late Model champ John Manke mixed it up, sending both cars to the back of the pack and leaving White in the lead. White led for the rest of the race and took his Statewide Towing sponsored Monte Carlo to its second consecutive win of the 2008 season. Barry Karr of Redlands returned to the track with a fresh tire and worked his way to his third consecutive second place finish this season.
2006 Pro 4 champ Don Minut won his first race of the 2008 season. Kyle McGrady led most of the race until a spin in lap 26 sent him to the pits. McGrady tried to return to the track, but mechanical problems forced him out of the race for the night.
Austin Murphy, who normally drives in the Lucas Oil Late Models, took the checkered flag in his first ever Factory Four race. Murphy drove the Another Mobile Fleet Service sponsored truck usually driven by Pooey Rouse.
A crash during practice resulted in a smaller field in the 2008 season debut of the Lucas Oil Outlaw Figure 8s. “Dirty” Harry Kuenniger of San Bernardino was able to hold off Riverside’s Johnny Lathrop and earn the win.
The Inex Legends ran a race for national points in the division. Cedar Lake, Indiana native Jimmy Hansen once again led the pack for his second win this season at OSS.
The Discovery Channel show Smash Lab sent a crew out to OSS to film the races as well as the evening’s grand finale, demolition derby. Smash Lab entered a car into the derby that featured in-car cameras to catch the action first hand. Paul McDonald won the demolition derby. McDonald had just returned home from Iraq, where he had served 2 years with the Marine Corps.![]()
