MUSCATINE, Iowa -- The Birkhofer Racing team picked up their second win of the young 2008 racing season on Friday night, May 16 at the Farley Speedway in Farley, Iowa! Brian Birkhofer finished second in his heat race prior to rolling off from the outside of the third row for the 50-lap 'Banner Valley Hauling 50,' which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The Muscatine, Iowa native ran up front throughout the race and blasted by leader Brian Shirley on a lap thirty restart to take the point. Brian then held off Shirley, Dennis Erb, Billy Drake, and Steve Casebolt to record the exciting $10,000 triumph! The dirt-slinging action then turned to the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois on Saturday evening, May 17 for another $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series show. Brian ran fifth in his competitive heat race before winning his B-Main. After starting eighteenth on the grid for the 50-lap 'Spring Shootout,' the driver known as "Birky" was bit by mechanical gremlins early in the race. He was forced to retire from the event in the twenty-third position. Night three of the tripleheader weekend then took place on Sunday at the Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned a $7,000 to win event on Sunday at Lincoln. Brian timed in seventeenth fastest in WOOLMS qualifying and later ran fourth in his heat race. The driver of the #15b then passed six cars during the 40-lap main event en route to a solid seventh place performance. You can view complete results from the trio of races online at www.lucasdirt.com and www.worldofoutlaws.com. "It was a great weekend for us and it was awesome to win at Farley on Friday night in front of my home state fans and on Cruz's sixth birthday," commented Birkhofer this week. "Our new car was really good at Farley and I look forward to running it again this coming weekend at West Plains. I think it should be really good there. Then at LaSalle, we broke out our Rocket car and suffered some mechanical issues early in the feature. We got back on track at Lincoln on Sunday, as I was able to pass some pretty good cars on the way to a solid top ten finish." Brian and his #15b team are currently prepping their equipment for the big Memorial Day holiday weekend! The 16th Annual 'O'Reilly Show-Me 100' will kick things off at the West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, Missouri from May 22-24. An open practice session will be held at the 3/8-mile, red-clay speedplant on Thursday night, May 22, while qualifying and six heat races will highlight the action on Friday evening, May 23. The Race of Champions, Manufacturer's Dash, and three consolation events will then precede the annual 'Show-Me 100' on Saturday. The 100-lap A-Main will pay a whopping $42,000 to the winner and $4,200 just to start the race. Brian finished seventh in last year's version of the premier event.
