MENOMONIE, Wisconsin -- With Jimmy Mars' son Taylor's health condition improving, Jimmy and his #28 Dirt Late Model team made a last minute decision to travel to the Shawano Speedway in Shawano, Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17. The brand new WISSOTA Rumble Dirt Series sanctioned their first event at Shawano and a $10,000 top prize was up for grabs. The decision to trek three hours paid off handsomely for the Mars Racing team, as Jimmy reached victory lane to become the first-ever winner on the tour.
On Friday night, May 16, Jimmy won his heat race from the third starting spot prior to also taking the victory in the dash. After starting from the pole position in the $10,000 to win A-Main on Saturday, the Menomonie, Wisconsin native held the point for all 66 laps en route to the triumph over Jeff Wildung, Justin Ritchie, Nick Anvelink, and Pat Doar. "After a rough last couple of weeks, it was great to have things go our way for once," stated Mars following the win on Saturday at Shawano. "Taylor was doing much better heading into the weekend, so we decided at the last minute to go to Shawano. We ran a 5-year-old MasterSbilt car there and it performed flawlessly. I am looking forward to bringing it to West Plains this upcoming weekend, as it has notoriously been good in the slick. Hopefully, we can put together another strong weekend at West Plains and Granite City!"
The Mars Racing team is currently prepping their equipment for the big Memorial Day holiday weekend! The 16th Annual 'O'Reilly Show-Me 100' will kick things off at the West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, Missouri from May 22-24.
