A central valley motorsports tradition will take place at Altamont Motorsports Park in 2008, as Saturday’s racing kicks off the “Tri-Holiday Series” at the half-mile oval track in Tracy, CA. SRL Flashco Southwest Tour 100 and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (w/ Westcar stars) 100 are both on tap.

All active military with ID will be admitted at half-price, and fans will have an opportunity to experience Jasper Racing Engines racing simulators in the midway.

More than 60 late models, including the Jasper Racing Engines-sponsored Future Champions Development Series, are expected to compete in the large evening program.

Late Model fans and drivers from all over the western United States will be in attendance to be apart of this action-packed event.

In addition, more than $35,000 in prize monies will be up for grabs.

The SRL Flashco Southwest Tour is led to Altamont by points leader Jim Pettit of Prunedale, CA. 2007 SRL champion and 2006 Altamont champion Dave Byrd of Monterrey, CA runs seventh in the points after two rounds.

Joining Pettit with a feature win this year is Troy Ermish, who took the main event win at All American Speedway in Roseville. Pettit’s win came at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.

2004 track champion Todd Bammer of Pleasanton, CA runs fifth in the SRL standings.

Guy Guibor of Manteca, CA is continuing his outstanding season in the NASCAR Western Late Model program, maintaining a 20-point advantage over Jason Gilbert of Pleasanton, CA.

Despite car counts averaging above 25 cars, Guibor has been able to stay consistently up front, with two wins and a third place average finish.

Tim Spurgeon of Danville, CA, 2007 Rookie of the Year Doff Cooksey of Brentwood, CA, and Andrew Livengood of Richmond, CA, run third through fifth in the track points yet all three are winless in 2008.

Popular central valley racer Wes Miller of Turlock, CA will be making his return visit to Altamont. He will be joined by drivers such as Pleasanton, CA’s Chris Bammer and Carson City, NV teenager Bobby Hodges who will be looking to steal the win.

American Limited Stock Car racing on Saturday is wide-open, as the event will mark the first time the cars have competed on the half-mile oval in more than three years.

ALSC points leader Slammin’ Sammy Solari of Salida, CA is two-for-two so far this season.

Jasper Racing Engines presents the Future Champions Development Series feature this week, paying $200 to win. Future Champions Development Series is a late model series for drivers ages 14-16, competing on the Altamont quarter-mile.

A unique division on the west coast, it has attracted future champions of racing from Northern and Southern California as well as Northern Nevada. Drivers competing in the division have experience in Outlaw Karts, Karting, Mini Cups, and Baby Grands.

Points leader Bob Wilson will hope to return to victory lane in the Formula-4 division, after being denied in both mains last weekend on the road course. This class for stock four-cylinder cars, allows low-budget road racing as part of the NASCAR and USAC racing programs at Altamont.
